I can understand the handling part, but there is nothing like a big block in a chevelle shaking the car and hearing the deep rumble.

And there nothing like smoken a big block...hee hee hee

Its funny, it has a unique sound when you wind it up to 6000+ rpms, she starts to whine..... of have a high pitch tone, and she is moving jack......

6500 she was still pulling like a freight train........

My BBC's would shake if I kept the idle around 650, but I keeped them at 950, no shake.... so its a really a virtue of idle speed unless you running something insane of 106 or less LSA, or a high duration cam on a street car....

My LS's will shake if I kept the idle low 600-650 but I run them around 870.... really depends on the combination.....

How does the nova compare, same year range? Weight and platform the same? Full frame or unibody?

nova is a subframe car with leaf springs. a bunch lighter. chevelles are not the car to start out with if you want to gut it to lose weight it makes no sense. chevelles are more money too.

stay away from chevelles if you just want one to act cool.

If I wanted a light drag shell I would get a chevey 2 or a older nova 65. Like the chevelle look. It's solid frame will hook like a mother. I wont get a # matching collector car, I can weld and do body work up to the point of paint. Grey ghost, father use to talk about them all the time thought it would be cool. Lighter is better, I want full interior, glass trunk lid and hood, no AC. Car should be Okay for weight but dont want a 4500 pig. If I could call my 00 TA a 70 and escape legal stuff I may not have even asked. I've wanted a chevelle since I was a kid, I love to wrench my TA is basicly done so I'm bored already.

400turbo cars? How are they with OD as for gas and street maners? Much better for the track and easier on parts.

The 3rd Gen X-Body (68-72 and 73-74)is about 3000-3200 lbs.. I have a 71 Nova and a 71 Chevelle. my Chevelle weights in a 3600 after the conversion. Once I get the Nova done, i know its weigh then.

but the 68-72 are a good platform for drag racing... with it rear over hang, it is just a bit better than the F-body (same front and rear suspension and parts).

Hot Rod Magazine did an lsx crate engine swap in 2008 where they took a 69 chevelle with a th400 and some suspension work and a rear end and bolted in every LSX crate engine they had and the thing was running 12's with a stock 5.3.These cars are awesome quater mile cars with the right set up.Novas are good too but I'd go for a Chevelle over a Nova just for the full frame factor.

chevelle = nicer rear susp factory. While a novas leaf spring setup can work, its still not as good. thats why mine has ladder bars lol

Hoping to get one soon, trading the TA for a 72 ss clone but I get to keep my MWC 9. Going to get an LS1 in the spring and mate it up to the turbo 400. Should be fun, needs a break conversion and a little interior work. Maybe I'll find a wrecked TA or SS and steal the engine and front seats and console out of it.

Chevelles are not as heavy as a lot of folks think they are, especially without the big block.I weighed mine the other day at the local woodyard,67convertible,ls1,4l60e,full of gas,no driver,3,380lbs.A 400lb aluminum engine works wonders for a little weight loss.A stock all iron big block weighs around 720lbs,then put in an aluminum radiator for another 30-40lb loss. And remeber where all this weight is being lost, right off the nose of the car.A coupe will probably be a little lighter than this convertible(the frames are a little heavier on convt.] Even a pretty good loss from a small block [appx550lbs all iron smallblock] then add aluminum radiator loss.

I agree with Superboost.. like i said before, mined weighted in just about 3600, which is only 100-150 lbs more that a fully loaded F-body... and that is with two full and very heavy boxes of Dyna-mat sheets, Bench seat, heavy Crager mags, OEM A/C box.

When I planned my front suspension out. I used springs that were supose to drop 1 1/2".. and B-body Spindles that were also supose to drop another 1 to 1 1/2".. almost 3" total drop...

But when I was done. I had to cut my springs a 1/2 coil cause the care was sitting about stock height !

If you can, I would start with at least a 6.0 platform or higher.....

LY6,LQ9,LQ4,L92, etc...... you'll be happier in the long run unless you just got a killer deal for the LS1....

I'm going to keep the LS1/t-56 and stay away from the autos.

Will my F-body hooker headers work? If not can you recomend a kit that will work with a 6 speed? Kind of biased with hooker but cant seem to find what I need.
What are you guys doing for consoles? the stock f-body looks wrong in there.
