My 1967 dream machine
In high school in the mid 70's I loved muscle cars from gto's to cuda's but my favorite was the 67 firebird. A couple of years after high school I got my dream car! I paid $500 for it, it leaked a quart of oil a day and looked pretty shabby but I loved it and was one day going to restore it. Well 3 kids, a divirce and 29 years later moving from alaska various garages abd storage units, I have done a complete frame off restoration. I just had it painted with a mix of my own; chevy torch red and 2010 and it really looks like it's on fire! I started out original but I found the numbers didnt match so I created what I wanted and it turned out absolutly awesome! Red, gloss black and chrome are the only colors on it. Since im not going original I am looking for a late model engine because of it's fuel economy, performance and reliability. I've been looking at GTO, corvette and camero engines and there is alot if good used deals out there but I'm just not sure which is best for my application. Can anybody give me suggestions on the electrical/mechanical/structural issues for this conversion? Any commets would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading my epic novel!
There are so many 'ins & out' to the various combos, I would read this here forum as much as possible. There are plenty of 67-69 Firebird/Camaro stories here. At some point, after the suggestions are given, you can choose what seems right for you. I think no matter what you decide to buy, there will be numerous decisions afterward.
Here's one point which made my project (67 Camaro/98 LS1) easier in the long run...I bought my motor plate adapters and headers from the same manufacturer (Hooker). This eliminated some of the trial & error related to engine fitment. Best of luck with your project & you came to the right place for assistance!
Edit...& check out the sticky with the GREEN arrow in this forum.."LSX swap faqs & hall of fame threads". It's a good place to gather info. Glenn/Class of '73.
