Default Engine decisions,,,,,,,I need advice

My project-- 1980 280ZX sbc conversion.
my chioces-- 1987 corvette 5.7L dual throttle body
LT-1 5.7L
LS-1 5.7L

I need advice from those that know engines and the best setups for performance applications. Also have to consider hood clearance if I go with a carb'd unit.
The cheapest is not always the best and on the other hand, the most expensive isn't either.
Please help and don't think of me as too ignorant for these questions.

You can't beat the LS1 for power to weight ratio. Plus, the availablity of parts is endless.

I think I have to agree, plus it will look very good under the hood. Any good sources for LS-1 with M6 tranny, to include the ECM and wiring.

They're also known as Contemporary Corvette:

I bought mine there, no shipping involved as it's within driving distance for me.
