Its a bolt in swap the longblocks are the same size. Reuse the truck intake and acc. Then all he needs is a tune for the larger motor! But a 6.0L swap will most likely be cheaper.

I don't think it's worth swapping the 5.3 to a 5.7. He should do a 6.0 instead, or mod the 5.3.

really? thats sounds easy but what if we want to use LS6 intake ? we need the f body fuel rail along with the injectors right? the 6.0 is most wanted in my country plus I got this LS1 sitting around for a while so we thought build fast truck with low budget

Agreed! Heads/cam the 5.3 is how I'd go, if the engine is otherwise healthy.

Why? That truck intake will be fine to make low-end torque, which is what it needs.

Is this a regular cab, or 4-door? Is it a daily driver? Does he tow anything with it? Just want to know how it's going to be used. I think I'd go with a mild cam and a good torque converter (Circle D, Vigilante, or Yank) for starters. You wouldn't have to really touch the heads yet. Then you'd need a pcm tune. If you can't get a dyno tune, many offer a mail-order tune, like Frost, that would complement whatever mods you do to the truck.

its regular cab short bed stepside and its almost daily drive it doesnt matter that much if it has choppy idle or rough idle the owner wants more power by any means lol

Stay on the mild side with the cam, and it will be a lot of fun. Do you know what the rear end gear ratio is?

I think I'd build on the 5.3, in stages if need be. I don't think the gains would be worth the work and trouble to go the LS1 just to gain 21 cubes.
