i have a gto t56 in my 79 camaro. i bought a pro 5.0 shifter that fits a 02 camaro because a stock gto shifter hangs back 3 to 4 inches. my problem is it doesnt feal like the stick is sitting at the right angle. am i missing something i thought the shifters were all interchangable. is there a different internal part in the trans that i need to change as well?

The part in the trans where the shifter ball (lower part of the shifter) goes in is not the same. The GTO one is longer I believe. thus putting an F-body shifter in the wrong spot. I found a sililar issue with my built T-56 I installed in my GTO. But the opposite. I had the F-body unit in my new trans where I needed the GTO unit. Tap out the roll pin and the part will come right off the shaft.

I am glad I checked here before pulling the trans apart. I installed a f-body shifter on my GTO trans and can't get it in any of the forward gears. I hope that takes care of the problem...... Was a little nervous about trans issues.

To read the above posts, seems like them guys figured it out.
Yea I know this is 13 years old or so, you all saying you needed that Fbody Shifter Cup that goes on the Rail I have several in my parts, I buld T56's. If any of you were local I'd trade it for a 12pack of Yuenling.
