Default Wiring Harness Conversion Question ?

Guys. I did my Chevelle the easy way years ago.. someone local in the area help me start it and I finished it.

My question is this.. Are you guys converting the harness by wiring directly in the PCM Blue/Red connectors ? (was how my Chevelle ended up) (using relays and fuses as required).

or

Going through the C100 / C102 / C105 connectors. ?

About to do my Nova now (02 F-Body LS1/A4). And wondering if I am missing anything by not wiring the required parts via the "C" Connectors (Relay and fuses for Fuel, power, IGN, Fans, etc..) ?

As always, there is always more than one way to do anything...!

I have always wired directly into the harness because the first one I did only had one side of the connectors and didn't have time to attempt to find the other half. After that I never thought much about it.

I also try to use the factory fuse panel for the car if possible which keeps things simple from a troubleshooting angle because it's all in one place. Relays on the other hand never seem to have enough slots unless the car was fuel injected before the swap.

The only people that use those connectors are people that are wiring into 3rd and 4th gen cars. Older swaps like yours don't need them.

I dumped the c-connectors, and just brought out the wires I needed to connect to fuses, pump, relays etc......I found in mine, I didn't need most of the stuff in the connectors, and was able to reuse the wire.

I build mostly 3rd gens and strip each harness completely before rebuilding to specs. Original EFI cars (V6, TBI, TPI) have ample fuses/relays in place already so the stock stuff is reused and the install appears factory in the end. Carb cars dont have enough fuses or any relays so an aftermarket fuseblock is added to the end

I chop the Cxxx connectors off and toss them in the trash in the beginning

Pocket, I've read a lot of your wiring posts, very informative and helpful, thanks. What are the Cxxx connectors (I know they are the C100,102,105 etc) referenced here, where are they located in the harness and what did they originally plug into? Do you have any pics? My harness is from a '00 F-body if that helps.

They are the connectors that send the wires from the pcm to the body of the car. The wires go to things like the dash/bcm/fuel pump.

Right, C1xx are pass fenderwell, C2xx are under the dash. C1xx are mostly fuses and relay control, the C2xx are mostly dash, ALDL and BCM control

As for me I'm re-wiring mine up to fuse blocks. I'm going to have 3 fuse blocks, 1 for the body and accessories, 1 for all time hot things for engine, 1 for ignition hot for engine.

I will have plenty of left over spots should I need to add another circuit at some point. So all pink wires will take up probably 3 of the ignition hot spots and one left for whatever I may want to add later on.

Not a problem, it's hard to really explain what to do over a computer but as you tear apart the harness you will learn quickly.
