LS1 VS smallblock dimensions
I am trying to find out if a "tuned port" fuel injected small block fits in the same place a LS1. I know there are a number of oil pans and accessorys available to change some dimensions. I am pretty sure the answer is YES but not sure if there are any redflags im not thinking of. thanks

A TPI small block is no different than any other Gen 1 smallblock. Same mount locations. If your question is can you replace said TPI with an LS1, the answer is yes. Look at the bunches of 3rd gen swaps that exist. If you are asking can you replace an LS1 with a TPI, then I guess the answer is sure, with enough work anything is possible. Not sure why you would want to.

I have measured an LS1 block VS a small block length wise, and they are within 3/16 of an inch in length. Heidth depends on what intake you use on the LS, IE carbed, injected, proflow, etc. Hope this helps, Eric L

thanks that is very helpful. I think the hood on our car is going to need some modification. The car is a Brunton Stalker. www.bruntonauto.com It is either going to need a cowl induction hood scoop or maybe just mod the top a little and let the intake stick out the front of the scoop. Then build a sweet ram air cleaner right on the nose. We typically use LS motors and we flip the intake around 180* to accomodate everything. http://www471.pair.com/stalkerv/gall...2_itemId=18776

If you compare a bare LS block to a bare Smallblock (no water pump etc on front) you will find the LS block to be about 1.25" shorter. Almost all of this is lost at the back end. On the 'ol smallblock the bellhousing 'flange' protrudes from the rear of the engine, whereas on the LS the face of the flange is near flush with the back of the right side head.
