duramax or cummins

duramax or cummins i know this is not the best place for this thread but i already posted this on the diesel forums and im not getting too much help so any help i good.
ok i might be bringing back to life a 1957 grumman chevy old UPS stepvan to make it one of my fleet trucks at fedex home delivery. (im a contractor)
it has a straight 6 chevy motor with a 4 speed tranny manual.
Now i want to make it diesel but want to know what would be the cheapest way? dmax or cummins. im a dmax lover but i think this will be a lot more expensive. i want it to be cheap in every way possible like parts and maintance wise.
what are the best cummins motors out there? i heard 94-97 are the best but not sure since im not very knowlagable with these types of motors. the motor will stay stock so no need for huge exhaust. waht else would i need for the swap to be done? thanks for any info hope to get some help here
oh and what is the price i should be looking to pay for something like this? motor tranny computer? needs to be automatic

yeah i thinks its the 24v cummins that is so good in the later years, i dont know much about this topic but i will say i dont see the word cheap in a cummins or duramax swap at all,i wanted to build a drag car a few years back and i found out fast those are not a cheap route to go, maybe call your bone yard and see what they have and what the prices are these days,
i would go with cummins , i dont know if that is how you spell that lol, my buddy has a few of them and they stand up to anything, he use to have a duramax,isnt it cummings though, lol
I love the dmax as well but for what you want cummings all the way get a 12 valve pre 97 I know they make adapters for allisons and gm trannys. I got a buddy that would know all the details ill hollar at him and send you a pm.
I suspect that the cummins would be the easier swap. Those motors are completely self-contained and lend themselves well to swaps. The Duramax is much more integrated into the vehicle, and will likely require a lot more effort to get it in.
There is no G in Cummins. The easiest swap would be a pre 1998 12 vlave because they are not computer controlled. A decent rebuilt motor plus whatever tranny you want to stick behind it should run for hundreds of thousands of miles.

haha yeah no G on the name. yeah thats what i was thinking a 1992-97 should work good right?

The cummins is a better engine and will get better gas mileage. Not to mention it will be easier to work on, mod and will be a lot easier swap than a Dmax. They guy I bought my 6.0 from had a dmax sitting on a pallet, the damn thing was HUGE!!! They are amazing engines, but a cummins just seems all around better for your money. Either engine will be reliable and powerful though. If it matters my 3500 dually got 23mpg city and like 26 highway with towing gears. Could go forever in that thing.

but can you post a couple pics of your lifted escalade? i have an 03 and trying to convince the wife to allow me to lift our escalade.
