Default Project "Loose Change" 240Z

Well after selling my sbc powered 240z years ago I have wanted to get another one forever. But...I also have a 69 Camaro and the wife is not to thrilled with two hotrod projects..lol. So hence the name " Loose Change" on this project. I need to build it on the cheap. The project is a 1972 240Z that I picked up $400. For a motor plans are either a 5.3 or 6.0 truck motor. Tranny..would love a T-56 but most likley going to be a TH350 or 4L60E if I can get it cheap enough. Not sure if Im going the carb or EFI route totally depends on what deal I can find . Here is a quick phone pic of what I am starting out with...lol

Nice. Too bad about the hole in the roof.
Take up a paper route and buy a 5spd. for it.

Wish you could find them that solid around here. The few that haven't met the crusher are nothin but rust. Good luck with the build, keep this thread updated with pics, I love the 'ol z cars.

He did this on a "loose-change" kind of budget:

Should be worth looking at for some ideas.

Update:

Well I picked up a nice bunch of parts to build a solid 388 sbc but might be trading it for a totally complete 5.3. Most likley will keep it EFI..maybe. If it stays efi here is what Im thinking:

5.3 LM7
LS1 intake...LS6 out of budget for now
TR220 or TR224...Comp 918 springs
1 3/4" headers
2.5" duals X pipe

OH yeah...also got the old 6 banger pulled out as well...

Well ended up trading the sbc off for a complete LQ4 6.0. Also picked up a GMPP single plane intake as well(GOING CARBED). Plans are now to get the engine bay all cleaned up and painted. After I recover from x-mas then hope to get the conversion mounts and 6010 box.

Hilarious!!! I have one nearly the same as yours. Same color...same aftermarket sunroof. Does yours leak too? My roof was finished off with a really bad body filler job. Going to try to graft a stock roof back at some time.

I'm going LS6 with mine. Keep us posted.

very cool!

Do you have room for the taller truck intake in there? What about the truck accessories?

Also, you gonna do the bad dog frame rails, or something similar??

Subscribing I am in the middle of an '87 300zx lq4 swap. I scored an ls6 intake with tb and fuel rails with injectors for $50 so I can retain the stock hood. I had to hone my motor and rebuild the heads so we had to make a pit stop at the machine shop. I should have the motor and heads back next week. Satan also has a lq4 single turbo 300 build in the forced induction section. There are not very many nissan/datsun people here so lets all look out for each other.

Steep SS...Sweet! I will look for your thread tonight.

Shred sled...I am going carbed with the 6.0. Its just my comfort level..lol. I have a 355 SBC powered 70 240 before and never did the rails.I did have a weld in 6 point cage though. It was fine.

Wireguy...Sweet swap with the 300zx. Good to see more datsun/nissan rides..

Most likely just going to go with the Sanderson 1 3/4" shorties. The JTR or JCI ones.
