Awesome swap, I've always waited for someone to give it a shot. What are you going to do for a trans/rearend? Should be a fun car, they are lighter then most people would think too.

I have seen one in person with a sprayed 350 sbc in it.

The quarter window was filled with kill sticker logos for Corvettes, Mustangs, z28s, and trans ams fighter plane style.

Wow, that thing is clean. Looks like you did some quality work on it. Cannot wait to follow your build. That will be one mean car. I hope you are planning on putting a nasty cam in it

Do some reading on V8 Fiero conversions, there are a few Fieros running around with LS1's and I imagine the conversion in a DMC12 will be very similar.

Had a thought, I'm sure you could look at some stuff on the ls1 porsche 911 build and get some ideas for you're engine/trans/drivetrain and how he set up a ls1 in a rear engine car

I would look into a pcm with torque management to help preserve the drivetrain. unless you have the coin to builld like mentioned above

Thanks everyone! As for the transmission, I'm actually going to use an original DeLorean manual transmission. I know it sounds crazy but they actually are pretty damn strong. (the autos however are not). There is one main coupler inside the transmission that connects the clutch input shaft to the input gear shaft that needs replaced to really strengthen it, but otherwise it shouldn't be an issue.

Around the internet there is a lot of info about a guy who put a 2JZ supra engine in his DeLorean; he ended up selling his car to a friend who lives about 20min from me so both the buyer and seller are good resources I've been using. In addition he's using the original transmission and at dyno, he put down 400hp at the wheels.

In terms of mating the transmission to the motor; thats what I'm working on now. So far I believe that I can make an adapter plate that will adapt the LS1 bellhousing to the DeLorean transmission. Then I also machine a custom input shaft that fits the DeLorean coupler on one end, that on the other, fits the LS1 1 1/8"-26 Spline pattern. Also since the LS1 bellhousing is bigger and deeper, the shaft will be a bit longer to make it into the pilot bearing on the crank. The original DeLorean input shaft is 15/16"-21 spline.

This is the shaft in question that will be made bigger on one end (one end has the coupler on it), and longer.

Interesting project. We recently completed a 5.4 3v swap here at DPI. If we can help with anything let us know.
