Foxbody Mustang Coupe and 6.0L Trick!!
Well picked up my 4th Foxbody yesterday. Its a 1993 Mustang coupe. Its still a 4 banger and running and driving with cold A/C. Clean car! Up until day before yesterday I had plans of a 408W stroker, TFS-R heads from TEA, Super Vic and Pro-systems carb. Thats around $8K give or take a grand. Then all of the sudden a vision came to me.....LSx baby. Ive been around them for awhile, mostly just stock EFI 5.3's or LQ4's though. Never mixed and matched intakes/heads on them so bare with me.
Ive read Billyflantos and DMMmizells stuff and they are VERY good reads. Both are LQ4's with either L92 or 243/799 heads on them. Of course I want to keep this as cheap as possible. I know where I have to spend money, intake, carb/MSD box, custom cam, headers, etc. But If I buy a LQ4 and want to run say cathedral heads on it thats one intake.....if I change to L92's thats another intake. This is what Im trying to avoid, also would like to avoid having to fly cut pistons but its not a deal breaker.
Dont have a HP number in mind but would like to run a LOW 10 all day long on pump gas, no dope. Then save some more money for my safety stuff and what not, pick out a couple more HP and bust the 9.99 mark. Would prefer to do this without N2O. Hell it looks like a stock LQ4 with Z06 cam/springs will get me pretty close. Any advantage with starting with LQ9 shortblock? I know more CR but then with smaller heads and any kinda cam your looking at flycutting.

Get an LY6 6.0L it comes with the L92 heads stock. The intake that comes on an LY6 is good enough already but can be swapped to a LS3 for hood clearance if you need it. People have put cams in there LY6 and put down around 430 rwhp through a 4l80e auto...

Will be carbed no doubt. The LY6 engines are not plentiful enough that I have seen. Motor will be LQ4 or LQ9......but even then the LQ9's are just not that available around here in east Texas. Thats why Im looking more for LQ4 combos with either the stock 317 heads, 243/799 or L92's.

just an FYI, billy's car was somewhere around 2600lbs i think. if you plan to keep the interior in it and have a rollcage it'll probably be around 3000-3100lbs depending on what trans you use, brakes, etc.

Yeah I know his car is light. This isnt the first Mustang Ive built and Im pretty sure I can get it shy of 3k with me in it. Im mainly trying to decide between L92 and 243 heads on top of an LQ4. If I have to flycut the pistons thats cool, they will be out anyway getting ARP rodbolts anyway. Custom cam all the way!!

Sounds like you are heading in the right direction with your setup. I just recently got mine running and I'm impressed on how well it performs. I was hoping for a 10.50 car but it has exceeded my expectations.
here is a rundown of the combo...
race weight is 2960 with me in it (i weigh 200)
pump gas
stock lq4 shortblock with arp rod bolts
local hand ported 243's, valve job, stock valves, untouched chambers, milled .040"
stock head gasket, stock lifters, stock rockers, ls2 hd timing set
comp 23x/24x .60x/.61x 110
stock truck water pump
victor jr intake, 850 carb, 1 7/8 dynatech headers
th400, borrowed 10" tci 38-4000 (for now), 4.10's, 28x10 slicks.
So far second time out it has been 10.35@130 w/ 1.44 60'. I'm still adding jet to the carb slowly and the mph is picking up. Can't wait to get an 8" converter in there to see some mid 1.3 60'.

Man part of me wants to drop the LQ4 longblock in it with carbed intake and maybe that Z cam and run it to get me up an going. Then there is that other part that wants to wait a bit more and do L92 heads and that intake and possibly the Rapid Motorsports cam. If the two intakes were the same it would be a no brainer. Just hate to do something and then have to sell it and buy something else. Guess thats just part of it. Im a long way from there but I want to start buying parts up as I find good deals.

93 model, 4 banger/auto. It has blue interior ALL original down to the radio. Ashtray door is intact and operational, core support is PERFECT(im VERY **** about this), quarter window trim is nice and no rips/tears/fades in interior even if it is blue.
Guy wanted $2K for it but immediately came down to $1500 cause it had a BAD oil leak (was pressure sensor). We agreed on price but he had wheels on it that he wanted off of it so we waited a couple days. I called him and he said "well I might just keep it".....oh HELL NO you aint. I ask if another $100 bucks would change his mind and he said no but $200 would. I said look $150 or **** off......we agreed on that at $1650. I had another one located for $1800 that was a nice 93 royal blue/royal blue with manual windows/locks/mirrors but it was in Dallas area.
Finding these cars in good shape anymore is getting hard. Usually some tweaker has owned them and there straight JUNK! I had no desire to pay 5.0 premiums just to yank the motor/transmission and throw em away, plus there all ragged out.
