Default A-body oil pan??

Ok I've read over every A-body swap thread and damn did that take for ever . My buddy and I are both doing A-body swaps at the same time and we would like to know best stock pan to use for price and fitment... I've read CTS V or LH8 pan but it seems the LH8 pan may hang to low. CTS pan is over $200 shipped on Ebay.

Can someone give me some measurements on both to how low they will hang past cross member? Also which mounts to use per pan??

Any help would be SUPER appreciated if i was close I would give ya a smoke and a pancake lol!

LH8 on my car. here is a picture where you can see it:

I would not use it again. I would punch myself in the dick and order the expensive Holley muscle car pan before I came to my senses.

72 Olds 442, CTS-V pan, 1" setback mounts, hangs 1/2"-3/4" below the crossmember. The LH8 hangs about 1" farther down.

Brad, I think we will have to go ctsv route. I'm gonna order one this weekend or tonight, I hope.
That is too low to run an lh8 pan, I'm gonna be slammed so that pan will kill the crickets n ants when I roll over them.

I have the Doug's mounts which put the motor up like 1/4". Looks like my CTS-V pan will only hang like 1/4" below. I will have it in the car as soon as pan gets here.

Stock fbody pan is a tight fit as its what i have. It can work but not too much room for error.
You can find the ctsv pan cheaper than that if i recall, maybe $75 cheaper.

99vette, how much room is the passenger head from the fire wall? Im wondering if the ctsv pan moves the engine a little more forward than an fbody pan? It may give a little more room for the tranny. The fbody gives about an inch or less from the fire wall to the passenger head IIRC.

I have a lq4 in a 71 el camino and I read a ton of post's about pans like you did and decided that I would use the f-body pan because a lot of people said it would fit. I could not figure out how to make it fit without notching my frame. You don't have to notch much and once its in it fits great. Definitely doesn't hang below the frame. The only way I could see it fitting with notching the frame is if I got rid of the fiberglass case that covers my heater and a/c stuff. I tried notching the fiberglass first but I was still about 3/4'' shy of getting it to slip in. If you are a good welder or know one its not bad notching the frame. I over killed mine when putting it back together by putting a 3/4'' piece of plate steel inside the frame fro strength before boxing it back in with 5/16'' plate steel.

I tried chopping up a truck pan with no luck on fittment.

Bought one of the first Mast Motorsports pans and it eliminated my engine placement headaches in my 64 chevelle. Without the mast pan I would have had to cut the tranny tunnel and switched to a car intake. Only thing I don't like about it is that I cannot install the engine and tranny together, which I could when the engine had the truck pan bolted to it.

I have the autokraft pan, haven't fit it yet but it is supposed to fit great from everything I've read. It is pricey though, but seems very will constructed.

Holley pan.

The problem with one that is close to the crossmember is the pan is so tight it makes getting the engine in and out with trans still in the car very hard if not impossible.

I set my engine with the truck pan on, and then I put the CTS-V pan on when I cracked the truck pan and it fit with room to spare. I can actually slide my hand between the head and firewall. I don't have any pics of that but I don't have AC either. NonAC car.
