Official- Where did you get your engine/trans
#61
I've bought several this way...liability or no insurance. Pretty common up here.
Or just "ranched/beat" within an inch of there life,(these are real cheap rebuild/stroker engine donors.)
Just bought a 2003 Suburban 5.3/4L60E for $850...(high mile, hit hard in front), sold the rear doors all side doors for $125 a pop. Almost paid for itself already. Still have the interior to pawn...
As has been said before...when you buy the whole rig you have access to a ton of little parts you don't have to source from somewhere else. (Acc drive, fuel lines, brackets, harness, starter, AC comp, alt.)

I bought a complete 2002 LS1w/4l60e with 33K miles from BADBOYZ28 on this forum for $3000. Smooth transaction, no issues. Haven't installed the engine in my car yet but it did arrive with no issues. I was a little bit leary buying something like that without seeing it in person but it turned out well.
I wanted to find an engine locally but had no luck. LS1 engines are hard to find in my area, and when you do find them they are either way over priced or a parted out mess from an abandoned project.

In 2003, got a pullout w/A4 from a TransAm, before engines were plentiful.
I payed too much, from a reclaim yard which shall remain nameless.
The A4 got sold...some of the valves in the 346 were rusted...some of the peripheral parts were missing. The yard was good enough to send those parts as a followup.
The only redeeming feature, was that it had only 31k.

I bought a donor 00 Z28 for 500 bones a few weeks ago. I found it on CL back home, paid a friend $350 to pick it up and hold it till I can get back and have it pulled. It moves under it's own power, has all the front accessories, and nice ZR1/GS rims. I figure I did ok. The interior is doodoo as the front bumper cover, fender, and drivers door. I should be able to part it out and maybe recoup the shipping of the car.
