Default Russell AN to Quick Disconnect Problem & Fix!!

I found a problem with a Russell Quick Disconnect Fuel Line Adapters. I have been reading about some problems they have been having with them coming off, because they are not seating all the way on to the connector. I have found a problem with one of the connectors part #640863 Black -6 an to 5/16. The plastic clip still had plastic in the seat area, and was not allowing the clip to seat properly. I have made a video of this problem, and a fix for it. I hope this helps anyone that has the same problem as I did.

Here is Pic of Adapter:

Also, there's a "new" version out, with metal, screw in retainers....
5/16 to -6 644113 Black. 644110 Blue.
3/8 to -6 644123 Black. 644120 Blue.

Thanks, For the info!

I have seen those, but haven't tried them yet. It looks like a secure setup.

I think the plastic clip ones work fine, as long as they are seated all the way.

The Automakers have been using them for 20+ years without problems.

For those with the plastic clips, there are replacement clips made of metal...Got some at NAPA.

I am putting these things on this Friday. I'm glad you posted this so I can check the little plastic clips before I put them on. Thanks a lot.

Don't buy the old version with the plastic clips, buy the new version Old Geezer mentioned, which are the one I used. The new ones are pretty much idiot proof as far as installing. Here is a link http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RUS-644113/

I had the plastic clip version pop off while driving and spray gas all over a hot engine. I was overjoyed when the new version came out.

I agree just buy the new updated version, its a much better idiot proof design. Russell knew they had a problem with those plastic style clips, they are probably fine but in today's marketplace you have to make things with idiot proof installation procedures.

My guess the only reason they are still selling the old style is they had about 25 bazillion made from their supplier in China and are just waiting to run out of stock and then discontinue the old style.

Guess I got lucky that my car didn't burn when my fuel line blew off.

Add me to this failure list - popped off the filter when starting and stranded me with a big pool of fuel under the Trans Am.

Thanks Russell!

Will rewire to include a no-oil pressure cutoff for fuel pump.

I'm currently running the old plastic style ones. So what I did was create a little metal plate that slides onto the AN line, then I put the fitting on the line. After that I slide the plate up right behind the fitting and zip tie it to the fuel rail. Its never coming off.

I do want to switch to the new style though. Even with the bracket I made I still don't trust them.

Earl's make a nice alternative. You actually need a tool to remove it, plus it has the extra retaining clip.
