nah, it will be a street truck. it will eventually have ac and zero weight reduction. track only would have had a th400 behind it.

No worries. I though Humble was in Harris county, and was wondering about inspections with the v-8 and a carb. Not my business. lol. Should be a nice quick driver when you get it done!

Man I'm stoked for your build. Anxious to see how those big headers fit as well. What are you going to do rear end and suspension wise? I've heard an 8.8 out of an explorer has posi and discs. I was thinking of going that route on my build.

it will be either an 8.8 or an 8.5. i can steal the tru-trac out of my silverado for an 8.5. whichever i find cheaper. 8.8 would need to be narrowed and re-drilled. 8.5 would be a straight bolt in.

suspension plans is a mono-leaf with cal-tracs and rancho 9000x shocks. 275/60-15 et drag radials.

I just got ahold of one of the S10 8.5's, seem it be a bitch to find.

Definately direct bolt in tho, 4x4 one is wider.

The price was $480 freighted to the shop down the street..but it ended up being a ZR2 Rear, waaay too wide for what I need. I'm looking for the regular 4x4 GM 8.5 S10 Rear Axle, it will be perfect for what I need.

why get the 4x4 axle? it is also wider than the 2wd. the zr2 housings are EVERYWHERE around here. the Zq8 8.5 is the one i'm hunting down. it's the same width as the oem axle (maybe 1/2" difference) they are hard to find because i think they only came in 6 cylinder trucks with a standard transmission.

The stock width is 55"(+/- .5"), the 8.5 4x4 one I have read to be 58-59". The ZR2 is 63", way too wide.
I have 3rd gen RS wheels on mine and they are set in a hair, about 1" from the inner body. That's a 15x7 wheel, 4.5 backspace I think.
My drag wheels are 15x8, 5.5 back space, so they would rub frame with stock width. A 58-59" would put them in a perfect spot, and I can get rid of the Camaro RS wheels and run a newer Fbody rim.

Granted I can get the normal width one and run it with 15x8, 4" backspace wheels, but that would require getting $400 worth of new drag rims.

i was planning on running a 15x10 with 5.5" backspace with a stock width rear...i didnt think that the 5.5 bs would rub the frame?

It's tight in there.. Measure from the frame to the axle face, then take an inch considering tire bulge..or give an inch..however you measure.

I have 235/60/15 on them RS wheels and right now the tire is 1.5" from the leaf springs. My drag wheels are 15x8, with 275/60/15 on them, so definately wider.
I ran my old 15x8, 4.5 backspace wheels on it with 275/50/15 and it cleared with the stock axle. I don't have those anymore tho.

If you are using a 15x10 with 5.5 it'll be the same as my 15x8/5.5, I'll check here in a min..

thanks for checking. that's the same tire i plan to use. 275/60 15 mt et drag radial. i could have sworn that i read somewhere that 15x10 with 5.5 bs was what it took to tuck a 2nd gen, and the 15x8 on 5.5 tucked a 1st gen. i'm going off of memmory though and it doesnt have a great track record
