I'm in the process of builing it so we'll see. There is plenty of info on the 4.8's here. As a matter of fact there is a 4.8 tt chevelle build in this section.

Mine is going in my a '74 Datsun 260z. Stock bottom end with ARP head stud/rods/main caps, Ls9 head gaskets, Ls6 oil pump, 241's w/799 valvetrain, '04 Ls6 cam so far. I still need injectors(I want 65lb-75lb) and TB(90mm-92mm). I'm also running a single Aeromotive A1000 w/ -8AN for feed, -6 for return.

My goal is 575whp-675whp. I hope I get there, my bottom end is pretty strong I think for over 18psi I'm guessing.

That sounds like it will be pretty awesome! I would imagine those datsuns are pretty light in weight so it should really be nasty. Keep us posted on that, sounds interesting.

Where are all the great prices everyone is finding these deals on 5.3's?? Im on ebay and car-parts.com all the time... Car pars seems really expensive to me, for the ones that actually show their asking price. Then when I call some that dont show prices, they are way up there in price also... Where are the good deals for these motors located... I call all my local jy's also and they want close to a grand for them too... What gives....????? Is it because of the demand of these motors nowadays????

Alter....contact Sixtoes1313 (member here) to see what he has.
I bought a shortblock LQ4 from him and have the wire harness, intake, and heads sitting in my garage that he hasn't picked up yet
I'm sure it would go for cheap ???

This is no way a sales add.... just someone that may be able to help out.

Yeah stock is 2680lbs(somewhere around there). The LS engine/tranny is only like 60lbs heavier. So I would guess around 28XXlbs with me in it after some weight reduction. It's going to be a monster I hope.

On a different note ! I see shortblocks on CL here in Cali go from $300-$600, some even longblocks that were running.

I bought a 2004 LQ4 shortblock last night for $500.00. It only had 5500 miles. It looked brand new. I bought it from a guy on Craigslist. I bought a 2009 5.3 with 20k miles on it for $600.00 off Craigslist. Just keep looking, the deals are out there. But you gotta be patient.

You can get fully assembled ls3 heads for $660 and a new ls3 intake with injectors for $300. With the right cam you can easily get a very streetable 400+ hp. I would just look for a shortblock if you are going to replace heads anyway. The truck manifold is useless.

That's to high for a burned motor! I wouldn't pay no more than 300 for it. Replacing sensors and gaskets are really high. I found my 00 LQ4 for 650 and payed 600 for it off of craigs list. He gave me 50 off because he gave the puter away a day before I came to get the motor.
A few weeks ago I found a completely built LS1 for 2k. I should have posted the link on here. I found that Atlanta and Northwest Georgia have the most parts for ls1's on Craigslist.
I'll do a quick search and see what I can find. I got lucky and found my engine 45 miles from the house.
Good luck.

The last one is for tranny's. You get the point. I found that in 5 minutes.

HMMM.. an LS3 is a version IV block, I didnt know I could cross match version III and version IV block parts and vice versa? I thought they had to stay with the same versions... For example If I found a 5.3/6.0 version III, then I had to go with LS1/LS6 parts and if I found a version IV 5.3/6.0, then I could match get parts of the LS2, LS3, LS7, etc... Is this not the case????

(so when I start looking for heads, intake, cam, injectors I can get it from any version??) I also was under the impression that the LS3 injectors had a different connector than the LS1/6..???

Any words of wisdom on this???

Hey Daz, I was just doing some searching and I was wondering if that "TBSS manifold" means Trailblazer manifold??? So does that trailblazer ss intake manifold work well on a 4.8-6.0l???? and What does that manifold look like??? Is it still a truck manifold or is an LS car style manifold??

Craigslist is the best for used parts. I bought a 2009 5.3 with 20K miles on it complete for $600.00. I also bought a 2004 LQ4 shortblock with 5500 miles on it for $500. I'm going to rob the 5.3 799 heads and accessories for the LQ4. I'm hoping the 5.3 shortblock and NNBS intake/throttle body/injectors/harness will net my money back on the LQ4.
