Default 1100+ HP Stock 4.8 short block in new HotRod

The Sept. 2011 HotRod has an article where they thought they were building a 5.3 junkyard shortblock for a torture test. After they had produced over 1100+ horsepower without a failure, they realized it was actually a 4.8.

Great article for sure. Not only did it put out 1100 hp,but they made over 50 pulls on the dyno. Now thats some abuse for a stock shortblock.

It made 1203hp at 26.8psi that is 4.09 hp/ci. Twin ebay 76mm turbos with ebay air to water intercooler 228/230 cam with ported stock heads and fast intake. I personally think they should of used the truck intake as well as the ls6 to see the power differences since they said they made 60+ pulls.

The 4.8s tend to last better under extreme abuse than the rest, IMO due to the short stroke which leads to a better rod angle and in turn less stress. With a proper tune the stock pistons seem to last, its the rods that start to bend and eventually let go.

The little motor made 450 HP at 7,000 RPM naturally aspirated too. While it had some ported heads, comp 281 cam and a 102 intake, that is still nearly 100hp per liter naturally aspirated.

Damn impressive. The article said the ignition system wasn't up to the task past 26psi.

I liked the article on the Sonney Leonord 1005ci N/A Hemi deal. 2150hp at 8000rpm on 112 octane. Or the street one with non AI rods that makes 1700... $125k

That would still be over 900whp through an auto and 9". They still load the dyno, to what degree i'm not sure but a load is required to measure power.

**** man!! Those are some awesome results, those little suckers make hold some serious pressure!!

IIRC a LQ4 block (bore) with a LR4 crank (stroke) equals out to 5.3 liters just like the LM7, but with obviously a different bore and stroke. I think that could make for a pretty interesting setup.

You have to admit that kind of power from a non forged motor is insane!
