Block is long gone... went to the scrap yard last year. The bottom end wasn't cheaped out on. I saw the parts when picking over the carcass. I don't know the definitive cause of the failure and don't really care at this point, but everyone in the Ford wold keeps saying too much power for a stock 2-bolt block.

Smoothed out the edges on the plenum divider cut.

Fire suppression done. Used two existing holes in the firewall and added a 3rd (why they're not all at the same height. Old system only had one nozzle on the driver and one on the engine.

Interior all done... ready to start putting the body panels back on.

Body going back on. Fixed a bunch of cracks and drilled/tapped the chassis to use button-head bolts instead of rivets. Replaced the old heavy fiberglass based heat shielding with the same stuff I used on the upper firewall.

Looks great, can't wait for the finished pics.

Side note-what model seats are those?

I don't understand why some people make such a big deal about running the carb. I would definitely run that carb if I had it sitting there, simple, light, and easy to setup if you know what you are doing. And like you said the fuel system was already setup. I agree with staying carb on the car

Body mostly back on (lots of little repairs being made) and new wing uprights from Panoz. Puts the wing about 4" higher and 3" further back. Panoz said the old wing placement was done to lessen the chance of damage if students backed the car into a wall. Over the years they never redesigned the uprights to put the wing in the correct spot... even on the GTS and GTWC race cars.

I also agree with keeping the carb. Car is looking sweet man! So are you Brian or Charlie?

Brian. Charlie is my father. We used to share the car before I built my Corvette.

Thought so haha. If you're allowed to have a GoPro on during races I would love to see some video of this thing doing work!

Off to the dyno for another try. Hopefully the milled plenum fixes the AFR imbalance and we can get the tune finalized. Dad's in town and taking it over this afternoon while I work. Will report back later.

Car made 323/351 hp/tq with 13:0 AFR and only 22 degrees timing. Couldn't get the car to fatten up any. Turns out the air bleeds had all been drilled out haphazardly and we only had four blanks. Going to have Pro-systems send a fresh set and try yet again. Trying to get air/fuel in the mid 12s before advancing timing. Car has a good bit more power/torque left in this stock LS1.

Oh and the plenum milling fixed the air/fuel imbalance. Car was only 0.3 air/fuel different bank to bank. Upped the jets in the secondaries from 79 to 82 to 86 and air fuel only fattened up to 13 which is way less that it should have.

Made a radiator debris screen; didn't have one before.

First time no racers tape has been used to hold all of this together. New duct paint, added a radiator screen, new air dam (red this time), etc. Everything done with SS hardware and nylocs instead of rivets for ease of service.

Test fitting...

You'd have to be proud of the way it turned out.

Your Dad will be the best presented racer on the track.

New 1/4" lexan from Five Star Race Bodies. It's a trim-to-fit '94-'98 Mustang piece. New weatherstrip and cleaned up the mount tabs.

Panoz tuning was a success. New air bleeds fixed it. Car is mid 12s across the board. 23 degrees total timing resulted in 322/351 rwhp/rwtq. Added more timing and it went 324/348 so left it at 23 for safety. All on 93 pump gas. Car is getting aligned now so making VIR should happen. Just need to install the front bumper and hood tonight.

That looks really good. What's the heat shield stuff on the firewall?
