Default Ok. My budget only allows me to use my TH400 with my 5.3 swap...

Someone please help me out with what I would need to with use my TH400 behind my 5.3/6.0L swap... I have an LS swap book, but it doesnt mention the 400 much.. I know I will need an adapter to go on the flywheel is? (I read something like that a while ago but cant find it now.. What else will I need in order to make it work.. I have a 70 chevelle... my TH400 is already installed in it with a trans brake and shift kit.

What would I need in order to make the fuel injected LSx work.. By the way, I am going to turbo it along with the initial swap.. Just in case that matters...

Along with a 92MM TB, ls6 intake, LS6 or Z06 cam, LS6 or Z06 springs, and 243 heads... This is the plan.... I had to skimp on the xmission because I have a perfectly fresh rebuilt one in it now....

(I am aware of the possible high revving at 70mph on highway..)

I thought I would mention... I have highway gears in my chevelle now.. 273 or something close... Not in the 3's..)

With that rear gear you will have decent rpm on the highway. I have 3.08's in my car and I rev around 2500 at 70ish mph. Get a good converter it will be the best money spent on the car.

Do you already have an engine, you say in the title it is a 5.3 swap, but then in the body you make reference to a "5.3/6.0L swap"? The 4.8 and the 5.3 use the same blocks but the 6.0 is different. That could make a difference on your flywheel configuration as well. If you use a pre 01 6.0 the spacer you referred to is made on to the crank (if you put one on it then you WILL be trying to squeeze a tranny into your budget), 01 and later 6.0's had a removable spacer on crank.

AHHHH... thanks for the tip... I have noticed a lot of folks saying either or and thought they were different, but both good options to run... I guess they both are good then...

With this setup, other stock parts and that knowing I will turbo it, what size converter would you recommend? any brand good for the price??

I run ptc converters. Their customer service is excellent and they are affordable. I paid $450ish for both mine. If your going to run boost I would do valve springs at least.

No engine yet. I was originally wanting a 6.0 for the extra added stock power, but now Im not so sure of the 6.0 because of the compression ratio. (I am seeing a lot of different compression ratios on charts and in books.. ShopKey 5, the book 'How to swap GM LS eninges into almost anything, and the chart I found on this site all have different compression ratios.. Which one do I go by?)

Plus the 5.3/4.8 are more budjet friendly however I was willing to shell out extra for a LQ9 with that extra 45hp over the LQ4...

Thanks for the tip by the way, depending on the engine I go with, I may or may not need that spacer..

If you go with the TH400 you will want to tune it for a manual transmission.

If you can fit it in the budget go for the LQ4 it has a 9.4:1 cr prefect for boost. Also I forgot to mention that the 99-00 6.0's have iron head heads.

So check out my build. I did the same thing with th350 in my 70. pretty much all your questions should be answered.

Flexplate 12621399 (elongate torque converter holes)
spacer 12563532
bolts 12563533

you can get them all from your local gm dealer.

We used an ATI Converter and didnt need a hub spacer. They welded it onto the converter when we bought it for $40.

its easy. i just bolted mine up yesterday...lq9 with the stock spacer and flat flywheel. bought a custom edge racing converter. bolted right on. didnt even have to oval the holes like some say. tranny bolts right up. the block is however missing one hole for the tranny..has the boss, just not drilled or tapped. so i bolted the tranny up as a template. make the mark then drilled and tapped it 10x1.5 like stock and youre done.

They say that hole is blank because it goes into water jacket. Be sure you use thread sealer when you put the bolt in for the last time.

You're not going to put a 92Mm throttle body on an LS6 intake. The intake has a three bolt pattern and the throttle body is 4 bolt. SDPC has new Fast 92MM intakes in stock.

oh really..... that is news to me... it must be because of only 3 speeds or to keep the ecu from throwing a code and putting into limp mode??
