Default lq4/400th 1971 c10

hello ls1 tech. I want to swap and lq4/400th into my 1971 c10. my current set up is a 350/3 speed saginaw. what type of motor mounts/adapter plates need to be used. the 350 mounts used now, mounts the engine closest to the fire wall(last 2 frames holes). can i just use adapter plates? i want to mount the engine closer to the radiator, away from the fire wall(first 2 frame holes). also, the frame rails seems to narrow slighty as leads to the radiator support. before i pull the motor, what needs to be done, issues involved, and purchased? thanks ls1tech.

Dirty Dingo mounts will give you more adjustability to put it where you want it.

PSI conversion or ls1tech, what frame rail holes did you use for your swap? Did you use the the first and middle(closer to the radiator) or the middle and the last(closer to the fire wall)? The first and the middle holes are used for v8 swaps and the middle and last are for the I6, so i have read.

Dec010974, got your PM, then saw this thread and figured this was as good of a place to answer it as any. I usually do make my own motor mounts. But I am considering using some conversion mounts on my beater truck swap I'm going to be doing soon. It sounds like your truck was originally a 6 cylinder, and that's why it's mounted in the rear position. What I would do is move it forward to the V8 position, since it makes the fan fit the shroud better. If you're running electric fans, then it really doesn't matter. Moving it up will also most likley make your driveshaft too short, so this may be a problem too. The plus side to leaving it toward the rear, is like you mentioned, the frame gets wider toward the rear, so fitting exhaust manifolds is easier. You probably will have to slightly notch the frame to clear the manifolds, but depending on which ones you get, some require more than others. In the past, I've used 99-02 F body manifolds with good luck. My beater truck will be getting a set of Trailblazer SS manifolds, since I've heard they fit the best, but won't know for sure until I get it in and see for myself.

Forgot to mention, if you have the tools, conversion mounts are not that difficult to make, but you'd probably be time ahead just buying some since they're so cheap these days.

FWIW.....We have tried a lot of mounts on various project, from no-name companies to well-known companies and I have not seen any of them match the quality and fit of Dingos mounts. I don't claim to be a weld expert (I do have a BSME) but everything looked quality to me and Brent (owner of DD) knew his stuff when it came to which mounts fit where. Just giving my experience with his company and products. I will definitely be using them again.
