Default 5.3 s10

Hey guys, Im new to the forum but have found tons of needed information on this forum so I picked it over the others. I know there are a lot of the s10 conversion posts in here but for me they never get old!

The truck:
1998 s10 with a 2.2 and a 5spd. It was completely bagged out when I got it and the engine was pulled.

The Engine:
a craigslist special 2002 5.3 with everything but harness and pcm.

I bought the engine expecting to have to rebuild it but i rejoiced when i pulled the heads and there was still a crosshatch pattern in the cylinders with perfect round! I was originally going to put it in a 91 camaro but it fell through so i picked the next best thing haha. I set myself a budget of $3000 just to see if i can make a solid build on a budget. Well here are some pics!

Here are some pictures of the truck in progress. I used s10v8 headers and motor mounts. I made the y pipe and the harness myself. Surprisingly the 2.2 trans crossmember and drifeshaft lined up perfect with the 4l60E with no modifications! I went with drive by wire because I got a deal on the pcm that couldnt be converted to dbc. A guy in west plains is taking the VATS and stuff off of the pcm for me.

Thanks guys and Its always good to have knowledge around. The first OSX swap was into a 1980 k5 blazer but I carb'd it so the fuel injection aspect is new to me on this one.

So I got my computer today but it wouldnt start so I put the timing light on it and made sure it was getting spark, then I made a little test light to make sure the injectors were getting power. So I narrowed it down to maybe clogged injectors. I soked them in some carb cleaner for a while and put them back on and now it is firing in two cylinders so I guess they need to be cleaned some more.

I got it running today but it idles super high (maybe a big vacuum leak somewhere) but I didnt want to run it too long to see if it drops down because of the 3" dump on the y pipe and no muffler and my close neighbors. I was happy to know that the harness is functional and for the 30 seconds there was no service engine light! I pick up the new injectors tomorrow and hopefully a muffler so we will see if it works its way down on the idle then.

yes the boiling thing works! I was in disbelief (I like proving people wrong haha) so I tried it and it was night and day! I finally got the truck running smoothly with no SES light and it idles normal. It turns out the battery was too low to power the TAC module and the super high idle was bad intake gaskets. I put the new style ones on it and it fired right up and the MAF trouble codes stopped instantly. Im going to upload a video when i find out how to show how it sounds.

I keep getting the code U0107 (loss of communication to TAC module) but the pedal and all works. It only comes back at random times not all the time. ln all of the posts reguarding this say to check the wiring and grounds which I have done multiple times and the fact that it still works throws me off. any suggestions?

I boiled mine, after it was suggested in this thread. While it didn't immediately fix my problem it definately helped. Also it was nice to watch the old tarnished fuel bubbling out of the injectors when they were boiling, it was amazing how much crap was in there.
