Need some help with 62 impala build
And I thought I had done enough research that I wouldn't have any crazy issues
Installing, but, there's always a but
Can't figure out what's going on while trying to put the engine on the mounts in the car, I'm using the adapter plates that are supposed to put it in the stock location, but it seems that I need to recess the firewall cuz the engine will not go back far enough, I have the muscle car oil pan, and there is plenty of clearance there, has anyone had this issue
But is your problem that the engine mounts will not slide on to the engine frame stands or that you can not move the engine back enough to bolt up to the Tansmission Bell Housing ? and that when trying to move then engine back to meet it, the engine (heads or block) hit the Firewall ?
Normally when they say that the plates will put the engine in the stock location, they usually mean the back of the engine flange will meet up with the bell housing of the trans. This is due to the Gen III/IV engine being shorter than an SBC by about 1".
They usually mean that the plate is a 1" Set back plate. A Standard plate will leave a gap of about 1".

yea so anyway a, friend stopped by and gave me an idea, so i bolted the tranny up to the trans mount in the car to see where the motor mounts would land on the stands or cross member...and low and behold they look to be about 1" off...going to order some offset adapters and see what happens...stay tuned for more
love that popcorn thingie too
Of my hair out..
I have had motor/trans in and out at least 20 times
And nothing is working
I had a friend over to show him what was going on, and I'm not sure what happened
But I put the standard adapter plates on and it slid right into place
First I bolted the tranny up and pa pow it was just a little off but headed in the right direction... So now I'm going to shim the top at 3/4" and the bottom about 3/8"( top and bottom of the engine stand that bolted to the frame) and I think it's going to lay down enough to bolt it up, that's my Halloween plan anyway
I can't wait to start on some real headache stuff like wiring and fuel
Wish me luck
