Default oil sending unit

Do I need the factory oil sending unit hooked up for the motor to run? I want to eliminate it and install the one for my gauges in its place. Can I do this?

why not use both. it is simple to buy the correct plate to have an additional one near the fuel filter.

Some people just drill and tap the block off plate, by the filter, and screw their sender in there.

The one with the tap still in it is the original sending unit. It was broken anyway. The other one is the oil cooler bypass from near the oil filter. I drilled and tapped both for 1/8 npt. This way you can use whatever sender you need.

So the motor will run without the oil sender hooked up? Right?

My harness didn't have a plug for the oil pressure sender either, he said didn't need it. Bought the fitting to hook my oil pressure gauge line to it. No problems.
