2BFAST's 69 Camaro LS1/60E swap
Alright everyone, after selling my blown & sprayed Silverado SS I have taken on a new challenge. Integrating new technology into classic style. I have modded late model cars & trucks mainly GM so the LS and late model hot rod scene isnt new to me. But mixing that with a classic car is so lets get it on......
The Car: 1969 Camaro. By the body numbers this car is an X44. Decoded as orginally Cortez silver with navy blue vinyl top and navy blue vinyl seats! It was also a 307 car. That is all I can get out of the body tag.
Main thing is this is the better half's car as she bought it from her uncle.Long story short is her uncle has had this car for years and was his life. It was probably at a car show damn near every weekend for years. Here in the last 4-5 years his health has declined and hasnt had it to keep with it and has sat ever since. He made the decision to let it go here recently and she couldnt see anyone else owning it other than someone in the family so we took it home.
Its an older restoration sometime in the mid/late 90's. Its painted Saphire blue pearl with white stripes which is actually a Ford color code. Complete tweed interior Gen I small block 355, TH350 trans, 10 bolt rear. Its a really solid car just completly outdated.
Here she is the night we brought it home.
Stopped by a really cool place down the road from the house. Old Skelly station down the road. Thought it would make a cool pic which it did obviously
This is where I come in the picture......bwahahahaha
And it begins.......

That is a very nice car. Now all you have to do is decide which LS motor you want to put in it and what transmission. The 10 bolt rear may or may not be a problem depending on the power level. It is probably a 8.2" but could have been changed out to a 8.5". If so that will solve any horsepower problems.

Starting stripping the LS1 from the stuff that will not be used to sell
Cleaning the oil pan up for the new buyer for it
Very clean engine
Local boy wanted the engine so time to get it out
bye bye old school!
Couple days after pushing it out of the garage to clean up

Me repositioning the LS1 on the stand. Didnt like how I had it the first time
Starting the disassembly
And as it sits currently
plan is to get the core support off and set all wiring back. Then power wash the sub frame. Then start in on the interior removing it to get a better game plan
I have the LH8 oil pan, BRP engine mounts, BRP trans x member, and all the C5 accessories. Pics of all this to come with more detail....

i've been researching pans as I'm doing a LQ9 into a 69, from what i've seen it hangs about 2in below the crossmember on these first gens, might not be a problem if the car isn't going to be lowered. I see a few guys running the f-body pan with the 1in set back plates and it seems to clear alright, this is the route i'm going to take....anyways keep up the steady work.

The BRP mounts are taller than most....they are designed to work with the LH8 pan in first gen F-bodies. The 98-02 F-body LS1 pan is the one to use if the engine will sit low in the chassis. It can be used without mods, but the engine has to set back very close to the firewall.

Pairof69's, thanks for the discussion. This will help others out as well im sure

I have the brp setup and I am going to be pulling the motor some time down the road to replace the pan. Look at the holley pan for that type of mount. Nice thing is you can keep the stock compressor location.
