Default LS1 wiring and PCM on new HEMI

A guy I work with wants to put an 04 Hemi in an older Dodge. He wants to run an 02 fbody PCM and harness. We are going to make an adapter to put the GM TB on the Hemi intake. Does any of our sponsors make such a harness?

Interesting. Most sensors can be moved over, but you better check on crack and cam sensors/reluctors for compatibility before spending a lot of money.

It seems the Mopar PCMs are harder to program than GMs and I've seen other guys running new hemis in older cars using GM controllers. I want to know what mods have to be done to make this work. Plus, I have HPT for GM so that will be a big expense we won't have to spend.

I can't remember, does the reluctor on the LS1 have 24x or 58x sensor? Ans I've never had the cam out of an LS, What kind of reluctor is on the cam? Is it toothed or half moon? If anyone could post a pic, that would be great.

Early motors had 24, later had 58x reluctor. Cams changed too.
Lingenfelter makes a box to convert reluctor count, so it can be done. But if you would need a 1 off piece for a Mopar, it might get pricey.

I would think there would be a way to get around the reluctor count on the programming.

I make custom harnesses all the time. Now, a harness for a mopar havent made one of those yet. But you will need to make sure all of the needed and essential sensors are either compatable and or swapped over.

TPS
IAC
CTS
MAF-Easy
IAT- Easy
O2 sensors- Easy
Crank
Cam
MAP

The coils would be easy too, just get some mounts and custom plug wires.

I think thats about it, as far as engine goes. Transmission will depend on what is used.

I posted this over on the bullet and found a guy in washington that is doing it, it takes a special adapter for the crank sensor. The company is nutter racing I think. There is a write up in one of the magazines about it, it costs around 2k for his kit that gets you running but you need to get it tuned afterwards. I have a 70 cuda that I have a 6.1 hemi for and I will be going MS3. Its around $1000-1200 or so and DIY has a writeup on it. I am guessing with the new MS3pro it may be even better.

Megasquirt is easier and more affordable plus you don't have to modify engine internals.

No way you are going to get the LS1 PCM to sync and run on the 36x reluctor wheel on the hemi, without a custom adapter as mentioned.
Also, the hemi spark coils dont have built in 'ignitor modules' like the LS1 coils do, so you would have to come up with a high current switching module to handle that duty.

You can put together a Megasquirt2 for about $360 with harness that can handle the hemi and be easy to tune.

Interesting...I havent done any research....But something just tells me, the cost savings if any would be off-set by the complex mods.

There has to be a kick azz Mopar programmer out there. I have seen some KILLER Challengers!!

Just google nutter racing engines. They add the ls trigger wheels and merge the two harnesses. Then you just add about $2500 to their account and you are all set. Or just use megasquirt for $439 and use the stock heni harness. It's a no brainer to me.

raising this thread from the dead - been thinking about buying an old Dodge Magnum wagon with the failure prone 5.7 Hemi. California forbids replacing the ECU on an OBD2 car, which isn't surprising since the ECU ties into the body control module and is responsible for maintaining emissions programming etc. I'd love to reposer a Dodge with a LS motor that makes more power, weighs 150lbs less, and gets better mileage to boot. Seems like the way to do this is run an LS engine with the Dodge ECU. But maybe this is all more trouble than it's worth.

Piggy back a Terminator X. I'll be there would be a way to make some sort of multiplier table to output a 36x crank signal to keep the Dodge ECU happy.

This actually makes sense. What the original post said was completely bass-ackwards. I’d start a new thread for this.
