Default Dakota Digital VHX gauges?

thinking about getting that dakota digital VHX cluster for my LQ4/T56 swapped 70 chevelle. i need an electronic speedometer to work off the t56 VSS or a gps speedometer. i have been looking into the dakota digital VHX cluster and it looks pretty cool. wondering if anyone has used one yet and what there thoughts are on them. they any good? or am i better off just going with all individual autometer guages?

Certainly better than the DD stuff that looks like it came from 1984, not bad looking at all actually though it might be overkill on the ricer appeal. Here is a vid

put a set of the vhx gauges in a customers 56 bel air and would say that no one is making a better line of gauges and for the guys going with a ls engine there even better they have an obd2 interface and can send data to the mesage center on the gauges and the other add ons they have and are coming out with make it like any high end new car and the speedo set up was alot better then autometter

i just looked into those. they make a few really nice gauges too! the only thing is i still would have to fabricate brackets for the guages and then make my own wiring harness and all that. definetly doable just kind of a head ache. i like that the vhx is bolt in and then you just wire the module.

I will be getting them by the end of January unless the **** hits the fan and I'm out a lot of money cleaning up something else.

There is NO other option for a 70-72 Chevelle SS dash that looks, fits, and works worth a ****. Period. The dash has 3 large round holes so you either have to use a junk panel and hack up the dash, use a multi gauge in one of the holes (this leaves you wil 3 small empty gauge holes in the dash that look like crap), or use the stupid gearbox converter to hook up the stock speedometer and deal with it not working properly all the time.

This gauge set is a God send to 70-72 SS dash owners.

Assuming you don't want multi gauges then yeah, this is probably the way to go. The smaller gauges in this vhx setup don't look that good either though. To say that other things don't fit or work is a bit much, it all depends on what you want and what you are willing to do (which is the case for basically everything on this site). If vhx meets your needs go for it, but there are lots of choices these days.

the housings people sell for the aftermarket gauges have horrible reviews for fitment and they don't even have a place for the headlight switch, the wiper switch requires cutting to work, and the thing loaded with gauges is still like $900

the Cable X box gets horrid reviews and mounting it sounds like an obstrusive pain and you still have rig up something to get the stock temp gauge working

the only other option I've seen are the kits with large speedo, large tach, and 4 gauge in 1 assembly that looks very very bad in the dash since it leave 3 empty holes

is there another good option I'm not aware of?
