accesory drive kits? can not afford V/A front runner
I am looking at the accersory drive kits to swap a c5 ls1 into a 69 camaro.
I love the vintage air system but There is no way some brackets and pullys should cost more than the motor!
I was going to install a complete vintage air system in the car but I cant even afford the drive kit.
Is there a cheaper way to do this?
I have been reading all the builds on here but alot seem to not care about the price of parts. anyone doing these swaps on a budget?
I alread have headers/mounts/f body paan and up to $1k..tring to keep it all between $4-$5 k.

Stock, brand-new GM stuff is pretty hard to beat! I use a stock C5 Corvette drive setup, with Street and Performance's passenger side low A/C bracket. I know that the Holley and Qwik bracket are cheaper, I just like the compressor being hidden down under the engine in the stock location. I just hate the look of the high-mount A/C compressor.
Here is a pic of the stock GM setup in an A body, which has the same clearance issues as an F body:

Good to know thanks guys. I like the ls1 c5 brackets on the motor now.it has the factory look I am going for..not into bling..clean yes.
So all i will need is the a/c bracket.
I am going to swap the car over to a/c with vintage air or another style kit.

Jim,
You are lucky, I did not have any, but I had not dropped the body back on my C2 coupe yet this morning, so I ran out and snapped a pic. The belt is not on, but you get the idea.
Once the body is back on, you can't even see the compressor from the topside, because it is buried back so far under the engine.

You can build your own if you have a jigsaw and a bit of sense
I pulled an alt and PS pump from the junkyard and some lexan I had laying around for a rough mock-up
Next, I went to a metal recycler and go some 1/2" alum plate pieces. Cut your front plate just like your front plate from the lexan. Use a caliper to line up the accessories on the plate. For the S10 alt and northstar PS pump, the alt was .25" off, simple spacer and they're aligned. Now you need to align the combo with the balancer. Measure from the balancer to the block and figure the necessary size of your spacers. If you're using truck or Fbody spacing, the rear plate will be identical to the front. Corvette spacing puts the PS pump flush with the head so you need to rethink the bracket in the rear. After that, you're done.
Custom accessories for under $100

I bought a complete 2010 Camaro accessory drive from Pace Performance. My engine is an L92, so it has the long spacing. Think the kit was around $850. The only issue I had was that the 2010 alternator mounting lugs were changed from earlier years - they push the alternator further away from the engine, resulting in the alternator hitting the frame. I bought an alternator and brackets for a fourth gen (sorry, cant remember which year right now), bought some spacers and a shorter belt and it worked just fine.
If I were to be buying brackets now, I would seriously look at the new Holley brackets. Very reasonably priced.

If you just want an A/C bracket and can't, or just don't want to fab something, these are pretty nice and inexpensive. But on second look, might be a problem with the Vette spacing.
