LS Swap in 78 Vette
#22
Scored on a LS6 intake manifold, batwing oil pan and water pump this week. Old A/C is removed and ready to install Vintage Air system. Need to find a dipstick and oil pickup. Engine bay paint is well underway.

Made some progress today. A Arms are back in. Vintage Air box is temporarily mounted and need to make a few adjustments. Tried to mount the jeep box and the u joint I purchased from Borgeson is to small. Have to send back and maybe go with rag joint.

How come the Jeep box? I've seen comments before on people using these but, what makes it a better option than the factory steering box that the vette came with? Not just on a Corvette. Juuuuust asking.

Made some progress yesterday. New wheel bearings in front end. Coil springs and spindles installed. U Joint ordered from Borgeson for the jeep box conversion. Got my LS6 intake manifold and oil pan this week. Ordered new cam and other rebuild parts for the LQ9.

You asked earlier about which alternator to use. If you are using the Holley bracket, you must use the pickup style alternator. It was a great idea by Holley to do this. Truck alternator are plentiful and relatively inexpensive. I used this bracket and setup on a 58 vette I am restomodding.

Good find on the LS6 intake and pan.
Btw, on the pan, you can reuse the o ring style gasket, but the manual reccomends putting a light coat of rtv about 1" long at the 4 corners where the front/back covers meet the block.
I've got an ecopy of the LQ4/9 manual if you need it.

@ garys 68: can I get an ecopy of that manual?
Thanks

Don't let anyone bullshit You , the Truck manifold will make as much or more power than a LS 6 . As long as Your Cam is 225* duration or less @.050. The smaller the Cam the bigger the difference in power . And the truck Intake will fit under the stock Hood for Your Car. I got one in My Car , 1970 with a 73 up-Hood. Also if You Don't want Hedders, LS6 exhaust Manifolds fit like they were made for the Car. Stan

Anyways, give me a shout if you need a hand sometime. I'm still fine-tuning my swap.

Ordered some more parts today. Ordered the LS swap kit from Bowtie. http://www.tvmadeez.com/ls1_cam/ and a new filter and gasket for the 2004R.
Will be working on the jeep steering this week and changing the body mounts in front. Another while I am there. Glad to be putting more parts on than taking off.
