Now I know why I usually stick to intank pumps..... !00 micron fuel filters are not cheap, 40 micron are less, but the more I read about them, the more I want the 100 micron. Also just about every filter I found uses AN fittings, took me a while to find one that didn't. I'm pretty sure I can get the 3/8 npt fittings to fit this one, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tchlink:top:en, the fittings I can get will have the compression fitting to go directly to the nylon fuel line on the other side. Going to check to make sure I can get the fittings before I order the filter, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

As for the pics, here's what I have. I did drill a few more holes in the bottom of the tank than there is in the pic, just to be sure. The welds aren't the prettiest, but I put the cap on, the sender in it and capped off the fuel line, then blew compressed air in the vent line fitting and put some soapy water on it and didn't get any leaks, so hoping for the best when I put gas in it! Might seal the welds with some JB Weld just because too.

Looks great!
How did you go about getting all of the vapors out of the tank so you didn't have to worry about it going kaboom when you hit it with the welder?

Good job on that sump.. you should need more than two or three 1" holes ( or smaller). Just have to make sure you vent them vapors outside of the Cab...

Sumping will be better off in the long run.. so .. good job.

Looks interesting.
According to my math, if a typical Walbro 255 LPH (or equivalent) pump is used and the small filter flows 150 GPH there should be no problems. 255 LPH = 67.36 GPH, right?

I read somewhere that they flow a little more at what the ignition puts out while running. Somewhere around 84 gph... so still looks like it will work.

Thanks for that link. I looked all over for something a little less expensive than what I found.

Fumes? Kaboom? Didn't see any fumes in it, pretty sure all I ener put in it was gas. Yup, just tipped it up on one end so the gas ran away from where I was welding....
But seriously, all joking aside, I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU WELD ON A USED GAS TANK! That said, I'm not going to come out and say how I did it. I don't want someone lying in a hospital bed with gas tank shrapnel in their head going" hmmm, well that's the way ls1nova71 said to do it".

Nice work. You should be ready for the NASCAR circuit with that set up.

What works for me: I flush the tank with a gallon of methanol (I keep a 5 gal container for my alky injection), then dump the meth but save it for later. This requires shaking/rotating the tank for awhile, so it helps to have good arms or better friends. The meth absorbs any remaining fuel. After the meth flush, fill with soapy water and let it set for a few hours. Rinse and dump. Just to be sure, give it the sniff test and wave a propane torch over the openings. Now you can weld. After welding I reverse the actions, soapy water, rinse water, meth flush. If it doesn't leak after the flushes, fresh gasoline.
