Default 2nd gen 5.3 ideas...

Hey guys planning On throwing this setup into a 70-73 2nd gen Camaro. But not to sure on what route I want to go I have a iron 5.3 block just block right now and I know the options are pretty much endless that I can go. Hoping to hear pros and cons and always most cost saving from those of you who has or done a 5.3 build. Turbo? Charged? Or go 383 on this. Stay fuel injected or carb this baby? I'm not looking for anything crazy as this will be a street car but be nice to know it could handle itself at the track or if someone wants to test there luck . Looking for realistically 450-500 to the rear. Thanks guys interested to hear your thoughts

I wouldn't build a damn thing. Get a 5.3 that runs, put a GT 45 on it and get to work. 450-500 is nothing for those motors. Throw a Zo6 cam in it for fun if you want. Stay injected. Cheap way to go if you ask me. I bought all of this garbage thinking "that's what I need" to go fast, nope. It's almost comical as to how much these motors can take in stock form.

Thanks for the ideas guys so a stock block will be fine with the z06 cam being sufficient enough. I'm spanky you got a page on your build?

The 5.3 is a very capable engine. I think you're on the right track if you want cheap power. Also, look at ways of dropping weight off your car. That has a serious impact on performance. Some mods are relatively cheap (glass hood) and others are almost certainly required (aftermarket radiator - mine was 109 from Rock Auto), and still others help greatly with weight balance (battery in trunk). The car in my signature block tips the scales at roughly 2900, which is almost 600 pounds less than stock. Easier on brakes, handles better and takes less power to be fun.

But like I said I havnt figured out Exactlly how I'm gonna build my hotside because I have Corvette acc. Brakets. These motors are very strong with boost

Haven't got to to turbo deal I want yet so, no I have no pics. I know you're using Corvette brackets but, I am using F body brackets and keeping the Power steering pump and alternator in the stock location. I will use the left side manifold(2) from an LS4 car (5.3 motor). Drivers side is flipped up and forward and pass. is down and forward. Turbo in the "battery area" so, down pipe can run straight back and down under car. You would have to see it if you're not familiar with those manifolds. That would be the only way for me without getting into custom headers. Search LS1NOVA in the Forced Induction section. He did a Nova with those manifolds. I liked it.
