Finally attempting 5.3 swap into 1964 Impala
#21
I will stay posted to this thread.
I will be dropping in a 6.0L in the next couple weeks into my 64.
I'll be doing some Flowmaster 50s under mine. I think you'll miss the Flows going to the stock mufflers by losing the sound and maybe restricting some flow.

if you chance the exhaust, drive it. See if you get any codes.
Then check mileage. It should tell you.
I would have it street tuned. It will make sure everything in OK. I call it a $500 insurance policy that will tell you HP. It will also let you lower the temp the fans come on (if you didnt lower it already).

I got my mounts on ebay. they were $19. some guy bought a set and was knocking them off. hard to go wrong with 3/8" plate.
these were honestly the easiest engine mounts that went in. The pivot peg went in with zero wiggling needed.

The best I can do is this: Since I'm not doing the work lol:
The engine isn't the prettiest but I'll take practicality over beauty any day.
Here's how the engine that was in the car used to run when it actually did run.
Here's an overview during one of its many downtimes
The more I look at that black dashboard the more I want it and the headliner to be red, and the more I want the interior to be red the more I want the whole car to be white :[[[[

No, a dyno shop or someone who does tuning can eliminate the rear O2 sensors. You will want to keep your upper stream sensors as those will help with fuel mileage and keep your motor running smooth.

Good news! It's been confirmed a 5.3 by the VIN, it was also from a C1500, but I'll never know if its a Tahoe or a Silverado. Still haven't heard anything about the mounts, but they said they'll remove the old boat anchor 350 from my hood soon.

I just received a call from the place, apparently they're removing the gas tank (to replace with the new one I bought), and removing the old engine, the mounts should arrive today so we can get down to business, I might be able to take a few pictures of some of these things if I get there today.
Should I add a VHX gauge set? Or should I wait until my engine/tranny combo fails and replace it with a computer controlled tranny?

PICTURE UPDATE:
Out with the old:
Can't believe they did this so fast, this was all done by lunch time, am I on an episode of overhauling?
The engine compartment looks so empty and alone! Heck, they even removed the hood too!

Here's the 5.3, almost ready to jump into my engine compartment.
Just waiting on the engine mount adapters to come, I replaced the steering box, tie rod ends, and the idler arm while the engine was out.

Bay area! Nice rust free place to enjoy my rust free car
My friend says he'd be able to beat me in his 1988 gt 5.0 convertible mustang with a CAI and rebuilt engine. What's your guys opinion on that?
