Default Oil pan advice

I am in the middle of replacing my stock lq9 truck oil pan with the GM muscle car pan kit. I measured pan to pickup clearance and its an unacceptable 1 and 1/16 of an inch!!! Wtf is GM doing? Good thing I am **** and always check. I triple checked and even had my brother measure it to make sure I'm not crazy. Well, not in this case anyway.

IMHO my two options are: weld a small extension on the pickup tube to get 1/4 to 3/8 clearance or buy the f body pan kit and have my exhaust guy rework my Y pipe to clear it. I measured and it would be really close and would probably hit the pipe the way it is. What do you think is the best option???

I am open to other suggestions so please share.

Thank you!

Clay it to be sure(just like doing PTV Clearance)

you may just need to buy a pan spacer(which I'm not sure if one is made for that pan...but there are LS oil pan spacers made that may work correctly..same bolt pattern)
or cut/weld the pickup tube as necessary to make it to your personal requirements.

Yeah I clayed it as well and my brother too.

Wouldn't a pan spacer make the clearance wider? Think I'm just gonna order the f body pan and return this POS. I've read posts of other people having the same issue and I have way to much money in this motor to risk blowing it over a difference of $100. Agreed?

sorry...my bad... I just saw the 1/16 inch
didnt see the 1" part of it....
yes... only option is adding more tube or getting a different one
should be more like 3/16 of an inch for oil pan to pickup

also, are you using the correct pickup for that pan???
you cant just change the pan and not the pickup tube....both are a set...sometimes the windage tray is also part of the oil pan pickup picture..

This has been a known problem with that pan. There have been threads on here about it before, with GM saying it's OK, but I wouldn't be OK with it either.

The pan came as a kit with the windage tray and pickup. I really dont have much of a choice because i actually tried the truck pickup but as i expected itdidnt work. I read on here about this problem so i called a dealer for GM perf parts and they said they never heard of this issue. That pisses me off!

Oh well whats done is done. Just ordered the f body pan, pickup etc from an ls1 tech sponsor. Maybe ill get lucky with the exhaust but i doubt it. Lol

Thanks for the help!

check with Canton. I know they have started coming out with a bunch of different LS pans. I'm not sure if they would suggest buying their pan and pickup combo or if there is a pickup they have that might work for you. Just my .02 cents.
