Unfortunately, my camaro drag car build has been on hold for a while due to lack of free time and keeping to a budget, which has made it hard to find the right parts. So, I've just been slowly gathering parts that I find at the right price. However, my old man and I have been wanting to swap an ls into an s10/sonoma for a while. We use our little pickups often, so it'll almost be a daily driver. He found a complete 5.3 engine last month, and I finally came across a pretty clean shortbox/regular cab sonoma (most of them are rusted out here).
This will also be a tight budget because that's how we roll. I work 2nd shift and he works 1st, so we'll only be able to work on it on select weekends. It could be done next month (unlikely), or it could be still going a year from now...
The truck is a 4 cylinder auto with 194k. Only a couple gears work in the tranny, but the engine ran well. First thing we'll do is pull the front-end apart and sell the engine/trans. We'll get a 4l60e for it. The 5.3 engine needs bottom end work, so we'll tear it apart. For now it'll stay pretty much stock other than maybe a cam.
My first question is, will these headers fit with little to no modification?

Started tearing the front-end apart and will probably pull the 4 cylinder engine/trans out this week. I've been looking at conversion engine mounts and it looks like there's more than one variation. Which is the best, and will those shorty headers work with any of them?

What makes them better? Looks like they have an H3 oil pan for a reasonable price, so I may do that as well.
Also, will these racing innovation headers work with those mounts?

Id be interested to see the same pic once the LS motor is in. Im having issues with the PS pulley to steering box clearance,. Id like to see how far forward yours sits.

Shorty headers are a waste of time imo. I'm sure some will get butthurt about that statement, but its true, lol. I'm not trying to start a flaming war, just know the benefits of shorties vs manifolds isn't much.
Get a smaller pulley for the ps pump, some use one off some v6 motors, but they are plastic and tend to break. Dirty dingo sells a machined one that works, 40 bucks I think
Jegs has the muscle car pan on sale for 129 free shipping I think, its the same as the h3 pan

Reason for the shorty's is because we're starting out on a budget. We just want to put everything together and get it running first. I also saw a dyno chart comparing stock manifolds, shorty's, and lt's. Shorty's showed about 40hp over stock.
Jegs has it for 135, thanks.

135 is less than I paid last year, so that's good. I did some more research on the dingo pulley, and it is the dorman plastic pulley machined to fit better. I hate plastic ****, read too many threads on em breaking. Ill do some more research, but there is a ford steel pulley that works perfect, just not available at stores, have to get it at a junkyard

I have a bone stock L33 motor in a 03 S10 with shorty headers & have no problem pulling just about any stang,SRT Charger & even a 6.0 GTO.
Wasnt going for HP when I did the build but needed a way to get the exhaust from the head to the mufflers & for the price I would say they have done the job very well.
A $1,000 for LT's or $250 to get the job done its not rocket science.
I also have a dorman pulley on my PS & rev it 6,000 & havent had any issues.

Yep, it was from Jegs. The only complaint I had was the packaging, Jegs just reboxed what GM had already boxed, my dipstick was bent on the tip. Jegs sent me a new one. It is the one I used though
The standard short filter is a pf48(metric threads), the longer version is a PF63. I don't use delco filters anymore, the wix longer filter is 57045, or napa is 7045(same as wix). Not sure what the short filter PN is in wix
I got my BRP in frame longtubes on sale for 600 coated and shipped, so It made sense to go ahead and get them. They are 1 3/4. They are still around 700 shipped right now. I used cpw mounts and made my own crossmember. I'm not sayin shorties are going to make or break a build , just usually most people aren't satisfied and end up doing longtubes anyway. It was a lot of work getting the in frame longtubes to work on a first generation blazer, but Im glad I did it. Only a few others I know of have them.
I now its a budget build, but I used one of these too, Not sure why GM just used 1 bolt on the pick up tube. This makes sure the oring is secured and sealed. http://www.brphotrods.com/mm5/mercha...ory_Code=CNV12

Just received the oil pan kit which I bought from Jegs' ebay store (saved a few bucks over their site), and there was absolutely no packaging/protection inside the box. Everything was loose and ratting around on the pan and tray. The end of the dipstick got bent. Not too happy about that, but what am I going to do...
So I think I'll order those cpw poly mounts since that's what most people are suggesting. Do I still have to get these kind of conversion mounts in addition to the poly mounts?

Still wondering if all the shorty headers are interchangeable with all these mounts. I'm looking at getting those from racing innovation since they appear to be the cheapest.
