72 nova lq4 swap
I'm starting to fit my lq4 and 4l80e trans into my 72 nova.My car orig had the 307 in it. I have the dirty dingo double d plates on the engine and I bought some factory 350 rubber mounts. I went to just stick them on the frame mounts before I bolted them on the motor and they will not slide over the frame mounts. I hear that the 307 frame mounts are wider than the 350 frame mounts. What are others useing that's doing the same swap.If you can please give the brand name and part number and any info you can to help get this engine fitted thank you.Maybe point me to a post that my help me understand the whole lq4 and 4l80e swap

There are two mounts that GM used..
a) Short and Wide
b) Tall and Narrow
sounds like you have the T/N mounts and the S/W stands if the mounts will not fit over. (I used T/N mounts and narrowed my S/W frame stands to raise the engine 7/16").
You just need to buy the correct frame stand to the mount or the correct mount for the frame stands you have.
check out the Energy Suspeions catalog for a better description of the difference. Page 15
You can find the frame stand on ebay, Junkyard or any of the Repo sites (Year One, etc)...

I'm also just starting an lq4 swap into my 68 camaro. Which have similar sub frames. From what I understand the taller the better because there are clearance issues already with accessories like the alternator hitting. If I were you I would keep it taller. Hope this helps.

Low72... yes if I am reading what you have correctly...it is what I did for my Chevelle swap with a CTS-V pan.
There are issue with going higher and lower.
Higher - hood, trans tunnel and firewall issues. Getting correct engine/trans angle issues. Wiper motor, brake booster.
Lower - ground/header, oil pan to cross member, front end accessories issues, steering box.
These are just some of the issue that you may or may not encounter with going in any of the directions.. higher, lower, forward or rearward. The again, none of them... LOL

Try bolting the plates, mounts and frame stands all to the engine. drop it in. Mark the hole location on the frame stand to crossmember and remove the engine, drill new holes (or weld in place)..
No need to buy new frame stands or anything. just use what you got ! also, no mis-alignement of the bolts for the mount/stands..

Are you planning on running the LQ4 accessories/intake/pan? The LQ4 intake and accessories have been proven to fit underneath a stock 3rd-gen hood. You should go with a modified F-body or CTSv pan though. My headers hang lower than the f-body pan, and I'm on QA1 coilovers. Another option is to cut the truck pan, though you'll lose about a liter of capacity in the process (I believe it's about 500 mLs with the modified F-body).
Also, peep the X-Body swap thread... you'll find way more info than you'll ever need.

I'm going with l92 heads and a ls3 intake. I was planning on fitting the engine then look at my clearance and see which pans seems to fit the clearance that I will have after I have the engine where I think it would stay. I'm not real sure on the accessories set up. I never counted that into play but I thing I should. It's for sure not going to have ac in it or atleast no time soon lol

I fitted my engine and all seem great. The energy suspension motor mounts was set on the 3/4 forward position on the dd plates and looks to be good. Just a tad of clearance on the oil pan but ill change that later. Working on the factory crossmember to work with the 4l80e now. Hope the pics work
