Good deal on jy LY6?
Finally thinking about taking the plunge into the LS conversion, found a 2010 Chevy silverado 6.0 with 64k miles at a local junkyard with ecm, harness. Talked to the parts guy and they want $2650. Does this seem to be in the ballpark? I guess I'd be saving some on shipping/core charges compared to if I bought from ebay or lkq. In your guys experience, can you negotiate price at all when your there? I mentioned on the phone taking a peek under the valve cover to look for sludge and he seemed to think you couldn't do that due to the engine coming with a 90 day warranty? Any other advice or heads up would be appreciated with what you guy look for,
Thanks
Thanks

Call Bow Auto in New Hampshire. They specialize in truck pullouts and they can probably do it for quite a bit less. They shipped here to MD in literally 26 hours, and I think it was only $100 shipping.

Mine was $2k even with everything complete from fan to flexplate with all electronics, and had 149k miles. I pulled a valvecover when I got there and it was spotless inside. Barely any varnish let alone any sludge. Oil pan was the same way when I pulled it after getting it back home. It came from a highway service truck from Florida.
$2600 complete sounds like a reasonable price for that mileage.

No core? Wow, most places I've found tack on a core charge, despite the fact that they do jack sh*t in terms of rebuilds. And technically as soon as you open the engine to peek at any internals (upper cylinder head included), the warranty is usually null and void. I'd forego the warranty for the chance to have a deeper look, even though these engines are robust enough to survive nearly anything you could throw at 'em for 200k. I mean, the only thing that could go wrong in 90 days would be install error.

I paid 1400.00 for an 09 with 85,000 miles. Sold the old heads off the motor (450.00), I had already purchased a new set of l92 heads, had those ported. I think I ended up with about $2300 in long block with the new ported heads. That 1400.00 also included the ecu, most of the harness which I sold that and kept the ecu in case I needed it later. I think you can find a better deal if you keep looking.

Mine was $1400 for '08 LY6 with 30K. I think I got lucky as this was a few years back before LY6' became popular. www.Car-parts.com
