Project RIP IT- C-10
Get raked over coals and buy aftermarket rods/pistons. Looks to me I basically have to buy pistons because all rods ive seen are .927 pin which stock LS stuff is .945, so I couldn't use my stock pistons if I wanted to. Not a fan of potentially having to spent another $1000+ to get a short block finished.
I've even contemplated boring this block to 5.7 to have more available piston options than 5.3. Need to do more research on prices and if its worth trouble
Think I may just step back for a bit and and decide what direction I want to do. Not sure continuing attempting to keep a stock rotating assembly is in my best interest at this point, just difficult to swallow that kind of $$ this far along.

I've found a local 4.8/4l60e pull out for $700. Im going to snag that this evening afterwork. Install it completely stock and un modified. Keep all my turbo setup, intake/fuel rails/TB etc as possible.
Sell truck. Move on to something else, maybe ill finish building a forged 5.3 for later projects.
I had a Mustang that was like your truck. No matter what I did to it, it **** all over itself. 3 motor combos, and 2 transmissions later, I put it back to stock, and shipped it out the door. After selling it, I heard that same car had previously had a salvage title because it was destroyed in the old LA riots. (no wonder it was spotless when I got it) I had heard after it was sold, the same non sense continued with the car for years. Luckily, thats the only car I had that acted that way.
Fixed that, put everything back together and it fired right up. Spend Sunday installing all accessories/radiator etc. Mark came by and installed a good 4.8 tune. Have a halfassed driver side exhaust that has a decent leak, so couldn't get fuel trims to act right and do any real tuning. But we did get a lap or 2 around the block. So hopefully I can get it to exhaust shop and get some final tuning next weekend.
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
Saturday spent probably 3-4 hrs working on dialing tune in. Took some time to figure out why it kept pulling timing under throttle. Burst knock table being zeroed fixed most of that. Its running decent. Im not going to invest a ton of time into getting it perfect.
Got new carpet kit installed, really happy with how it looks. Also spent about 3 hrs Sunday getting the dash panel installed with gauges, Had to be creative on getting the small gauges in since they are smaller than holes in panel. Made a sheet metal piece that I mounted them in, then 1 single screw through plastic to pull it tight. I need a new speedo cable to make gauge work, mine seems to be missing the nut to thread onto gauge.
In the home stretch now, I need to rectify the exhaust leak on driver side. Install hood, and drive it. I think ill have a for sale add put together by weekend. Look like taxes are hitting peoples bank accounts already. So its about that time.
