Haha. I know a lot of people are asking me about the AWD thing... Honestly, this car was destined for RWD even when I had planned on Subaru running gear going back in. I had picked up a spare center diff that I took the guts out of and TIG welded up. This operates just like a spool, and you can switch from AWD to RWD and vice versa at will with a couple hours of work swapping the diffs. The best part about it was you didn't even have to remove the front axles!

Tires, I'm not yet sure about. Subarus aren't exactly known for their generosity of space in the wheel wells (despite what the awesome hellaflush movement would have you believe ). The car currently sits on VW monte carlos. They're 17x7.5 et35. With 235s and unrolled fenders, Have about 3mm clearance. I'm pretty sure I'll be rolling and pulling fenders and possibly "caressing" the inner wheel house for space.

Well, subaru engine is gone, so now I'm committed. Guy came up from Maryland and scooped up about 5k of parts.

Going to try to make it to pick up l33 this weekend. Been thinking more and more about cam selection. Might be wanting to go with LS9 cam, and swapping over to a front sensor setup. Anyone know a good fit for springs with that cam with stock l33 block/heads otherwise?

Ya just gotta love it when something like that happens don't ya!!

Just get you some 660 lift springs. Without going double roller setup, that is about as big as you will ever go anyways.

If anyone reading this has a spare 4th Gen front timing cover, and 3 bolt, 1x cam gear please pm me. Apparently I cannot even post in the WTB section yet (soon enough though).

I'm on the hunt for ls1 complete intake setup as well, would prefer DBW!

Well, a little more progress after a loooooong evening. Long story short, thought engine was moving. Pulled over on side of road about 3 miles from my friends shop, in an area with no reception, and next to no traffic. Managed to lock the keys in the truck, along with my cell phone, and my wallet So here I am, with 3k in cash in the cab, a tablet, a laptop, and a ratchet strapped down l33 in the truck bed. A thiefs delight. I didn't run, I SPRINTED all the way to my buddies house and we nabbed a couple tools and went back to gain entry. Anyways... some pictures!

Those 799 heads are pretty good and get even better with a little port n polish. Ive heard alot of bad things about the comp 918s. Even the new ones. Looks at Brian Tooley double valve springs for a good spring, thats what im doing.

Looks like the Tooley doubles are reasonably priced (130).

Yeah I know there are mixed reviews on the Comps..... I picked they up new along with the ls9 cam new as a package. Too good a deal to pass up. Worst comes to worse I sell them off cheap and just get something else. Ill have to make up my mind soon though since after a little more clean up and a few more new parts I will be swapping the cam and pretty much be ready for the springs.

Other thing I was surprised about was all the use of metric bolts on this engine... guess things have changed some since I had my last domestic vehicle

Alright. Waiting a pm back about both an oil pan setup, and complete ls1 intake mani.

Question: Will this front cover work with my ls9 cam?

You could also look at the PSI Maxlife beehive springs. Not saying the Tooley
duals aren't badass but just way more spring than you need for the mild lobe
factory cam even figuring boost times surface area.

you need to check to see if your cam is a one or 3 bolt design, because you may be changing the cam cover, cam position sensor, and the timing chain and gears. Some of the cams were single bolt, some 3 bolt, some front sensor, some rear sensor... It is a mess the crap they still manage to come up with for the exact same series of engines.

look at what all they had to do in this comparison test:

http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles...st_comparison/

that should be able to tell you a little more.

Yeah I'll keep looking, I'll have a bunch of time to swap out between the hundreds of times I'll be dropping in and pulling .

That cam comparison is one of my favorite reads! It was the basis for my cam comparison spreadsheet I started. My LS9 cam is a 3 bolt. I know I need to get the GEN 4 front cover w/sensor, as well as the correct 3 bolt, 1x cam gear that is supposed to match with gen 3 24x reluctor. The nice thing is I haven't decided on a PCM or a harness. So I can always have PSI make me a custom one from GEN 3 LS1 with lengthened cam sensor wiring, unless I decide to not be lazy and make my own harness for the first time.

Trust me on the "lazy" part of a harness, BUY IT!! Don't build it unless you like sore fingers and getting frustrated, along with blurred vision from all the wiring you will be staring at. Find someplace that can make a harness exactly the way you want it and get it. Hang on to the harness you already have and keep it for a backup or play thing. Even start on the rewire with it if you want to, but trust me on this part, do NOT delete the transmission stuff. I wish I hadn't done it on mine, honestly.

Shopping around for cam gears. Looks like I need the 1x 3 bolt gear since the L33 has the 24x reluctor; I know I misspoke about the 58x previously!

Intake mani came in last night.

Still looking for Gen IV front timing cover, may just snag the one on GM parts direct, although I was hoping for a used deal, haha. Also need to get teh 1x 3 bolt gear. Once I have those two items I'll probably slap the engine together and it will be almost ready to start mocking some items.
