Default Which 4L60E do i need?

i have a 2005 5.3 that im putting in a 75 camaro, i dont have a transmission yet and im looking for one now. My question is which 4L60E do i need? the tailshaft length shouldn't matter since its going in a 2nd gen camaro. I was looking at 1 from a 2000 c1500 and the guy told me it wouldn't work because my engine was from a 04 and up. Just need to know so i can get a transmission and get this thing going! Thanks for the help guys

2000 will work. I have a 2000 4L60e out of a 2000 Camaro. Works on my 2005 LS2, and also worked on my 2002 5.3. There are two different styles of converter though, so make sure you get the right one. If you have the "truck" motor, be sure you don't buy a "car" converter. I guess you could swap flywheels if necessary though.

Also, make sure the 4L60e is is the TWO PIECE trans, not the single piece bellhousing.

This is correct:

This is the older style, and NOT correct:

Notice that the incorrect one has a smooth, one piece bellhousing similar to the old TH350, etc.

Thanks for the info, i found another local guy selling a 4l60e out of an 04 c1500 for $300 with 70k on it. I think im going to pull the trigger on it now that i know it will work. so no issues with the pcm controlling it since it's not the same year?

As long as your harness plugs into it, it should work fine. Pretty much all the harnesses in that year range will plug right into any transmission in that year range. When you have your computer flashed to remove the VATS, emissions, etc, tell the tuner what trans you have. $300 is a steal if it is a functioning transmission. Go buy it before someone else grabs it.

I snagged a 4L80e last summer from a diesel truck for $75 off craigslist. You need to act fast as good trans sell very quickly. It has the integrated bell housing and works fine behind a LSx engine. Just be sure to leave the bolt at the 1 o'clock position out. Because if you drill and tap the block, you will hit water and ruin the block.

99 hoe is a 60 e trans. Only difference is possibly the shift arm may have a park neutral switch on it.

Tahoe line did not switch to the LS motors in '99 like the pickups did. Tahoes switched in 2000. (my sister has a '99). It will have the single piece bellhousing and your harness will not plug directly into the trans.

Question

I knew they were the old smooth body style in '99 but not aware that the connector was different.

What is different about the harness connector that prevents it from being plugged in?

I am 99.5% sure that trans will work. I am also about 94.1% sure that trans did not come out of a '99 Tahoe. I am pretty sure it's out of a '99+ Silverado or Sierra

Find the plug on the harness of your 5.3 and make sure you have a corresponding plug that looks like it will fit that plug on the trans. Don't quote me on it but I THINK I remember the plug on the harness is black with some white on it. Either way, you'll know it when you see it.

well there in lies another twist, I started trying to rework the harness that came with the engine and I kinda messed it up. So I'm thinking about just buying a aftermarket harness and if I do that they should be able to attach any plug I need for the transmission, right?

I think so, but I would ask the guys at BP Automotive or Speartech to be sure

Get him to send you a pic of the plug on it, and then forward the pic to BP or Speartech and ask them if their harnesses will communicate with it.
