How are you going to address fuel delivery? I was looking at the Aeromotive Stealth tank myself. Since you went factory on the radiator, what's the plan on the fuel pump?

You would think something as simple as a battery tray wouldn't take too long to install but that's not the case. We bought the $20 reman from ricks first generation. It had to be moved over about 1" from the factory mounting position due to the radiator. The big problem was none of the weld on nuts that came on the battery tray lined up with the holes they had drilled for them. They had to be reamed out just so the bolt would go into the welded on nut. Also had to widen the holes on the inner fender since the whole tray moved over. Net thought I'd be so happy to get a battery tray in but I am!

Gas pedal mock up, I used existing holes from a previously mounted gas pedal and bolts from block of plate from where the original linkage style pedal went through the firewall. I want to limit holes in the firewall to a minimum. I'll probably redo the mounting later but this will get us going to we can get her cranked. I'd like to weld all thread to the floor in the locations we need for the pedal. With all thread and a few jamb nuts I think it would be the cleanest install possible.

Pick up tube and dip stick mock up. Using the stock G8 one in this pic. It originally went into the side of the stock oil pan. Had to punch out the dip stick freeze plug in the block due to our Mast motorsports oil pan having a dip stick hole. We did a little bending to get the G8 one to work, we will also have to extend the upper mount so it will be able to be bolted up. Also bought a 2010 Camaro dip stick and pick up tube, it won't work with our set up like we thought it would. Trying to make the G8 one work..

I would switch the pedal to a 04+ Corvette, the wiring is the same and looks like a factory pedal for your car.

I like that pedal, it seems less bulky as well. Thanks for the idea

Crazy thing is, the stainless piece on my factory 72 pedal fit perfectly on the new corvette pedal! I got a new one off of ebay for $50.

Regarding the fuel tank, Tanks Inc has one that includes the fuel pump etc that fits your care. I would also use the Corvette fuel pressure/filter unit.

Thanks GTA, I kind of like that set up. What year range on the Corvette pump setup were you referring to?

Sorry Sprech, just saw this. We went with the Spectra gas tank set up for LS swaps. It has an internal pump and is a factory size replacement for the 69 camaro. We got it from rockauto for around $330 I think. Also going with the corvette style filter and regulator. I think the part numbers for these were listed on page one of this thread. If not I can get them for you.

The pump that came with our spectra tank was ac delco part # EP381. The specs on it are 55-65 psi (ignition on), 85-115 psi (shut off), 50-52 psi (running), flows up to 50 gal/hr. I miss read earlier and thought GTA said he used a corvette style fuel filter/regulator. I'm pretty sure what we went with was considered a corvette style fuel/filter regulator. Not sure if the pump above is the same as in a corvette or not. The fuel filter/regulator we used came from Speedway Motors part # 910-12800, it was $70 from them. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info, I did see it before, but honestly I've read so many different build pages recently, they are all kind of blending together. On the tank, do you know if there is a pump tray and/or any baffling in there?

And, I love the wagon that's in the background of your first pick. I've wanted one forever, but the timing was never right or what I found was junk.

The filter regulator I used was Wix 33737. They sell for around $35-$40. When I measured the fuel pressure on the rail it was 58psi. Goes well with the Tanks Inc set up.

No problem at all, that is true. After looking at so many builds its hard to remember who did what and what all you've read.

Here's the link to Rock Auto's website. It says it has a baffled sump

The Wagon is owned by the guy doing the swap for us. It's his second wagon, LS swap coming for it after he finishes with ours.

i'll be really curious how the SPECTRA PREMIUM / COOLING DEPOT Part # GM32BFI tank works out for you. Its a lot cheaper than going with a tanks inc set up. They run about $530 where the spectra tank is only alittle over $300.....don't mean to sound tight or anything, but when you get into these LS swaps, you can really pile up the $$$ fast

It's all about getting the best price you can for parts that will last. I must have originally done something wrong on the pump look up because I ended up with a ~$200 part. Amazon has it for about $35 for a pump kit, not AC Delco though. Will have to do more research.

I just looked at RA and it's $315 for the tank and $65 for the pump assembly. So $380, $415 with shipping.

@hybrid69, you said the tank comes with the fuel pump? I didn't read that on there, if so, it's only ~$340.

The problem with the Spectra tank was fuel starvation when going around a corner with say 1/4 of a tank. I don't know if they ever fixed the problem. Maybe some research will turn up some answers.

The guy that is doing the swap for us has a friend running a spectra tank in a 55 chevy that was built several years ago. The only problem he has had is that the internal fuel pump went out on him at about a year old. So, he suggested ordering a back up pump to keep in the trunk just in case.

I had to call spectra to get the fuel pump part number before I ordered the tank from Rockauto. I was surprised to find out that they were running an AC Delco fuel pump with their kit. I figured they'd be running some no name cheap pump. The part numbers for the fuel tank and extra fuel pump should be on page 1 of this build.

The spectra tank does come with the fuel pump already. The tank and an extra fuel pump was right at $400 from RA. Maybe they upgraded the pump when they heard people were having problems, I have not researched this, just speculating.

At this point we are committed to the Spectra tank, so we will see how it does. I agree cost is a factor when doing an LS swap, gotta save where you can. We are nearing the end of the money pot with our build unfortunately.

I fill my tanks up once I hit 1/4 so hopefully I wont have any issues with fuel starvation. We shall see...

FWIW, according to Spectra, they updated the fuel bowl and added a baffle about a year and a half ago.

Hi,

Yes, since about a year and half the production has modify the bowl with an additional baffle in it. It did solve the fuel starvation.

Thank you for choosing Spectra Premium,

Best Regards,

Did you already mention how you were going to address venting the tank? It only looks like there is a delivery and a return line for the fuel.

On edit, Spectra says to use Stant cap 10646, which is ventilated. I believe that will solve the problem, any thoughts?
