L33 issues

Its been in and running for a few weeks, been chasing electrical/tune issues. But it has developed an oiling issue now. Probably have around 150-200 miles on the motor. The other night i noticed it only has 10-15psi at idle and 35-40 at cruise speeds. It had 35 and 50+ normally up to this point. Trying to figure out potential issues.
I drained/strained the oil the next day and found some material but didn't seem excessive considering it has all new bearings. I put a heavier oil in and that didn't change the pressure. Talked to machine shop today and he said most likely the main bearings are failing. So i pulled the filter off today and looked in the pleats and it really doesn't have any metal particles in there that were obvious. So when i assembled the engine and removed the DOD solenoid valley cover, i replaced it with a 6.2 cover with the orings to seal against the oiling stands. I've been told that would be fine vs. drill/tap/plug them all.
Just curious if anyone would suspect the cover as a possible issue. At this point im not sure what else to do except drive it till it spins some bearings, or maybe pull pan and pull a main cap to look?

But i did read today about shimming the oil pump to center it on the crank with thin metal. I never heard anything about that till today. Obviously i didn't shim it when it got assembled. Would make sense to have a rattle because of that...
Anyone have experience with shimming/not shimming oil pumps? How would it effect pressure?
I assume the end game here will be me pulling the motor to replace/shim pump and reassemble it
