Thanks for the replies, my only issue with the DBW is the fitment issue. The pedal that came with the truck engine I bought wasn't going to fit. But after your responses I'll just have to modify the assemble or source one that fits. I just sold my 5.3 and 4l60e while I finish my stage 2 suspension upgrade and really decide the best engine/tranny combo. I do think I will end up going with a 4l60e, there is a L76 for sale locally with low miles out of a G8 GT but it's mated to a 6l80e which is too big and modifying the trans tunnel is not something I want to do. I've given myself a budget of 10k, but would like to keep it around 6k. Really torn on the right engine to go with, I do not want an iron block. My goal is for a nice cruiser, around 300-325hp at the wheels. Any opinions are welcome.

Any 6.0 should hit your hp goals.
I wouldn't get too hung up on iron vs aluminum. These A bodies are big cars anyway, so the extra weight isn't much of an issue.
Not sure on your pedal issue other than some trucks came with a massive adjustable pedal assembly. Avoid those.

I had the massive adjustable pedal and cut it down and welded it back together and fits and looks stock.

With a 6k budget, you can get just about anything under the sun you could ever want. I'd say look for an LS2 engine/trans combo out of a GTO or Corvette to get the 4 speed auto.

If the L76 is a good enough deal, maybe just but it then sell off the 6l80e if you don't want to use it. You can probably pick up a 4L60e/80e cheaper than you can sell the 6L for and still have some $$ left in your pocket? I paid about $3200 for my L76 and 6L80e pull out that came out of an 09 G8 GT shipped to my door.

On ebay the aluminum block engines can pull quite a premium, if you aren't stuck on aluminum the iron block engines are typically 1-2k cheaper. I read somewhere that an iron block 5.3 is already about 40-50lbs lighter than a Gen I SBC 350?

The local yard is asking 5k for the l76/6l with 40k miles and it's complete. I'm not sure about the 5.3 weights, i'm not too hung up on the aluminum block, I'm really torn between the LQ9 and just going for an actual LS1 out of a 'vette. The gas tank i'm going with is the tanks inc set up for EFI was almost $500. My wife bought me the revised holly oil pan, and the dirty dingo sliders. My suspension setup was a little over $2100. If I can get the right engine trans pullout for around 4K then I'll be happy. I've considered the VortecMax from justchevytrucks, about 4500 for a reman'd lq9 with stand alone harness and pcm included new internals. I can pick up an Fbody ls1/4l60e locally for about 3500, but i'd rather get the 'vette one as I've read the front accessories clear better.
