Default 66 GTO LS3 Swap...What frame/engine mounts and oil pan?

Looks like my 461 is going to sell and I am moving toward my LS3 conversion a bit quicker than anticipated. I have the Pontiac frame mounts and I am wondering if I have to change these to chevelle mounts? From some of the reviews it appears that the Holley pan is the best option but there is nothing that talks about a 66 GTO in particular. Thoughts? Then there is the Autokraft, Moroso, the list goes on and on. As far as engine mounts, would the Dirty Dingo mounts be the best choice? They are moveable which seems appealing but headers may be a problem. Thanks guys.

Research the A-Body FAQ threads. The DD are ok.. but there are many on the market now a days... take a look at the Holley stuff...

Also try sticking withone vender / manufacture, that way you kniw everything should work together.

Yes you will need Chevelle frame mounts. Like bczee says, look at the Holley combinations. I used Dougs headers and mounts when I did mine. There are lots of additional options out there now. Do search the forum, you will get lots of guidance. Don't be afraid to ask questions and post pictures!

I've used both the Holley and autokraft oil pans, quality products. The autokraft pan offers some extra frame clearance. But All my swaps have been 68-72 chevelles

That is where I am kind of settling on. Seems like a fool-proof option and I kind of need that.

I talked with BRP today about their kit and it appears the kit moves the engine up a bit higher in the car than what I would have expected. Their kit was designed in conjunction with the Hedman Husler headers and I am thinking that if I do not use their kit, I am probably going to have to look for other options for headers. I see Dougs makes the
D-3336 header which looks like a quality piece...but will it fit? The Hedman mids will probably fit with no problem, but I need some major exhaust fab work there. No matter what, there is no slam dunk anywhere except for maybe cast manifolds.

Enough to make your head hurt sometimes

Yea I have not picked out headers yet, I am totally frame off 66 lemans resto mod, just finished mini tub on frame, trunk pan removed installing extended rear wheel wells to accommodate my 335x35x20s, strange rear end being built, t56 was just built with 35 spline, frame boxed converted to rear coil overs, front suspension is on, adjustable upper a arms, 14 inch 6 piston wildwood super lite disc front and rear, going to be a long process, my first build ever

Nice project. Looks like you are taking your time and not rushing. Plenty of time to drive them when they are done.

Which oil pan did you go with? 302-1 or 302-2? The -2 talks about being good for F-Bodies and Novas. I thought the 302-2 was the mac daddy in terms of clearance and fit.

I think the Holley pan is the new standard. Take a look at the Dougs headers. So far the tightest to the floor pan fit I have seen.

Yes the BRP kit does place the engine up higher, as it was designed to be used with the LH8 truck/Hummer (aka Muscle) oil pan.

I would recomend the Holley 302-2 pan as it has a more shallower front sump, which allow a lower engine placement and also has relief for the tie rod ends (at full turning). I now have one in my Chevelle.

I read where the 302-2 pan requires a shorter windage tray to be installed. Any idea if the stock ls3 engine comes with full length or a short tray. Did you swap your windage tray out?
