5.3 to TH350 problem

Buddy of mine is putting a 5.3 in his 67 chevelle with a th350 trans. Now he has stock flex plate with the crank hub adaptor which is same setup I had in a 5.3 700r4 combo. Problem he is having is a big gap between converter mounting and fkex holes. Further problem is converter is completely bottomed against the spacer not allowing pull in or movement of converter. Not a converter seat into trans issue. Anyone come across similar issue? Almost seems the spacer wouldn't be needed.

Spacer goes between the crank and flex with a flat flex...

Stock dished flex. Seems like even with no flex if just the spacer was in place it would still wedge back against the converter making it unable to spin.

You haven't got one of the truck "long" cranks by chance? Car cranks (and a lot of others) are flush with the rear cover while the long cranks stick out (0.400") a noticeable amount.

I was wondering about that. Do you still have to use an adaptor with the longer crank motors or do they bolt right up?

Looking up the .400 longer crank, it says only use flat flex plate and no adaptor. This came with dished flex and a flat fkex would never clear the back of the block. I don't think this is the longer crank motor

Is that torque converter the same one that came off the Chevelle?

i would double check to see if the snout of the converter is bottomed out
check to see if u have any burrs on the snout stopping it from letting it go all the way in
may want to check your diameters with some calipers
the spacer is a machined part so u never know
