Question HOOKER LS Exhaust Manifolds in '64 -'67 GM A-Body?

I have a 2008 LS3 crate engine mounted in a 1964 Pontiac Tempest (same as Le Mans or GTO) with Edelbrock conversion engine mounting plates.

Hoping these Hooker manifolds are a good fit. My engine is stock so I really don't need headers, more interested in a good fit than anything else.

Was also looking into trying Gen-5 Camaro manifolds but have seen where they dump straight down into the rear lower control arm mount brackets on the frame on a '64 A-body: https://ls1tech.com/forums/15843222-post10.html

Anybody having good luck using these conversion manifolds in the early A-body GM cars?

I've tried some searching here in this forum but have yet to come up with a definitive answer, thanks for any help.

I can't help with regards to the holley manifold fitment/dimensions but other options might be the cts-v manifolds which seem to be pretty tight to the block and the collector closer to the exhaust ports and point rearward a bit more:
cts-v

gen 5 Camaro


another thought may be to pick up some truck manifolds for cheap and weld on either a v-band or some other flange that will clear the frame since guys have had good luck welding to these manifolds.



with your fab skills I think it would be a piece of cake.

of course you could do this with the Camaro manifolds too...just cut them back a bit and weld on a bend to avoid the lower control arm mount.

Thanks for the input, taking time to gather and post up those pics is much appreciated.

Trying to get my project back on track, have decided I don't want headers now.

Would still prefer to simply bolt on something that works. I don't mind paying for a new aftermarket part that's likely made of better materials than the stock ones (high silicon ductile iron) and will fit right out of the box.

Anybody currently using these on an A-body project or a finished car?

The truck manifolds add significant width to the engine block - if your frame rails are wide, they might work. I think I measured 33" or so wide at the outer portion of the outlets measuring side to side (but if you added a Vband, they'd be significantly narrower.)

The C6 corvette ones are very narrow, but do dump center or a bit behind. They barely fit between my 27" wide frame rails on my '51 Ford pickup.

I'm fairly certain if you got a set from jegs or summit you could return them if they didn't fit and don't show signs of installation. of course have to eat shipping might be worth a try to keep things moving along

I used 02 F-body manifolds on my 64 chevelle. They fit right in perfectly like they were made for it. I do not have the external heater box on mine so I wouldn't know about the clearance on it.

Fitment is confirmed on 1970-81 GM F-bodies, 82-88 GM G-bodies and 68-72 GM A-bodies according to the manufacturer.

I will order a pair and see how they work on my '64 Tempest, I can't see why they wouldn't work if they fit the later A-body.

I am working on a LS3 in my 66 GTO and I am in the quandary of exhaust at the moment. At over 500 HP, I am thinking headers are free HP. I am planning on ordering the Dougs uncoated as a trial. If there are any others that look like they might fit, I might give them a try. Summit has a nice return policy and as long as I am trying uncoated, there should not be an issue with return. The cast manifolds look interesting though.

Did you ever get a chance to try out the Dougs in your 66?

There are differences in 64 to 65-67 a bodies also ,, I believe one is the front crossmember is wider on 64s ,,, I cut an pasted my 64 chevelle to get the engine sitting where I wanted it , I believe I used pasesetter headers on it ,,, you will see many parts listed for 65 to 72 a bodies ,, manufactures leave out 64s for a reason ,,, by the way 64 tempest , lemans , gto ,, are my favorite a body of all time .. please post some car pictures
