You will want the cover only, because the some of the Explorer diffs have only one front pickup point on right side of diff not 2. I think 07-10 have 2 ears on the front, but don't quote me on that.
Oh I saw that thread, just never understood what he was doing until now

Thanks!

I just found out the Later model Explorers also have a beefier front mounts(2) than the cobra along with an upgraded(beefier) rear cover than the one pictured above. I'm glad I could help and learn something in the process.

2006-2010 Have 2 front ears that are pretty thick (unlike the Cobra's) and a thicker rear cover

I think he didn't want a t-bird diff because it came stock with 28 spline shafts. But yours probably has 31's in it. The housings are super cheap compared to the Cobra and only about 20lbs heavier. But the front ears can break on a Cobra at 1000 hp level where as t-birds won't. If it has to be a factory aluminum housing w 31 spline shafts the Explorer is a better way to go.

Us CTS-V guys are starting to adapt the 8.8 IRS into our cars. A pretty good thread with lots of detail on all the different diffs is located here:
