Default 1965 A-body, which booster fits

I'm going to be putting an LS in a 65 buick special, currently with single circuit drums. I want to do the brakes first, because once the engine is in, i wont want to keep the car off the road.

1. Will an 11" booster work in a 65 with an ls1?
2. will a hydroboost booster work in a 65? If so, does it have to be flipped upside down?

I can't answer the fitment issue, but love the hydroboost booster unit I installed on my 1951 Ford pickup. I found a brand new Delco unit from a 2010 silverado for cheap on Amazon (search this site and you'll find my post with part #)

I added that with an upsized GM truck master cylinder larger bore (1 1/4"). This reduced the required pedal travel and gives a very solid pedal. My old truck has 11" discs and metric calipers upfront and the large truck drums on the Ford 9". Braking system feels like a new vehicle.
I think with your setup, you could use OEM Delco hoses to the booster, too, which are very reasonably priced.

With my vacuum boosted setup, the braking (feel) sucked. Could barely lock them up with high foot pressure and lots of pedal travel.

Some old NASA ergonomics studies show brake modulation (with a human leg) is easier with very low travel and firm (high) pressure rates. Intuition might suggest differently. I know my real world experience aligns with the NASA studies, having driven many different vehicles with different braking systems.

In my 1965 Buick Skylark a dual 8" booster works just fine. It appears that there is enough room for a dual 9" booster. I don't think the 11" booster would fit, at least in my car.

I will check mine tomorrow. I have a pair of 65 Lemans. I installed a stainless steel brake conversion kit with the 67- 69 booster 7-8 years ago. Worked great. I finished my 5.3 conversion a few months ago and the brakes work just as good with the stock 5.3. If you search 65 lemans 4 door you should find my initial write up with pictures. I haven't updated it in a while.

I wonder if 11" will work.

As already stated a dual 8" will work possibly a 9". They are not stock they are dual diaphragm. 11" will not fit.

I test fit a reman 67 11" booster. It barely clears the inner fender.

Now I just need to figure out if the ls3 and Vette covers will work.

Anyone know of an aluminum master cylinder out of a newer car that would bolt up to a Chevelle firewall - Booster would be ok as well. SAE threads if possible.

Thanks. Do you have a pic of the clearance? Are you running Vette covers?
