Alright need advice, i have already got a PSI custom harness and computer coming for a stock LS1/4L60E remember that . LS1 ran perfect had good oil pressure, my OCD kicked in so i decided to put new gaskets on motor while it was out of the car, car has 168K miles on it with no info on motor or tranny maintenance history. And to my surprise i found a oil pan full of metal shavings so heres my ????
1. Do i rebuild LS1?
2. Buy a 5.3 or 6.0 Longblock and dress it out with LS1 stuff
also this car is just a crusier i know PSI tune is for stock setup
3. Does it matter to computer if i put 5.3 or 6.0 longblock if i use LS1 stuff
4. Whats the best avenue for my wallet
remember i'm a newbie any advice would be greatly appreciate

Buy a 5.3 from a pick n pull, throw ls1 accessories on it. Call psi and ship the computer back to them and they will change the tune for the 5.3. That's what I would do if I didn't have hptuners.

Thats kind of what i was thinking. Are they a certain 5.3 I'm looking for? Will all the LS1 sensors carry over to 5.3 so my custom harness will work?

Bummer that your motor turned out to be a turd. I know how it is to be sent back to square one, not much fun.

But it sure going to be nice when you're out cruising around in it. I've got a 60 Biscayne that I'll be getting around to next year, nice to see so many people in here that know where to go and what works.

Best of luck going forward!

Ok i got motor dropped in i heard about 20 different stories of how they go in on 59-60 chevys. I'm a newbie to LS swaps so i'm learning as i go trying to keep reasonable budget in mind just get running then make power. So what have i learned so far i decided to not cut and weld on frame i figured i would make it work well notching frame probably would have been easier. I've had motor out a few times i'm trying to get motor in there perfect for serviceability so here are some pics and want to say thanks to Jeremy at www.psiconversion.com he has been very helpful and willing to answer all my silly newbie ???? so hopefully i can get started wiring and fuel system i got to raise motor like a 1/4" to clear one spot on oil pan. Also the reason i raised engine is to clear low mount alt setup but i had to trim on back plastic cover on factory alt to get to fit. I'm gonna run manual steering for now car handles to good i have 605 and ididit on my 64 and i like road feel of my 59 better go figure. Also coil packs on drivers side had to come off wouldn't clear and my tilter hit firewall before motor was perfect. I ran my PSI harness right out the center of the firewall threw a existing hole that i made bigger 2" exactly love my harness good quality product also thanks to my Dad "Last Pic" i worked him like a borrowed mule this weekend he is my engine install wingman
