First LS build 67 Skylark Well this is my first Ls build. I have always wanted a Camaro but a couples of months ago I stumbled upon 66 GS400 and I was in love. I stumbled across a 67 Skylark 2 weeks ago gutted out but straight body with very very little rust and I snagged it.
It is going to mostly be a street car, with a little track time.
so far...
debating between LQ9 or LY6 leaning with the LY6 and have started looking.
fuel injected not sure what intake yet but was thinking of maybe a nos upgrade later
200-4R Transmission from Extreme Automatics
not sure on headers yet
gas tank from tanks inc
Flowtech afterburner mufflers.
still have to do inside to looking at bench seats up front
going to start changing the drum brakes to disc next week
as im new to this looking for lots of advice and pointers thanks!!

If I were doing this, I'd be looking for a wrecked HD
Silverado and get the LQ9/4L80E combo. I know it
would fit the '68-'72 A-body. Do not know if the '67
had a ST400 or TH400 option, which would ensure the
tunnel would take the larger case. But why mess with
a 200-4R when you can get much more stout without
even rebuilding?

I would start reading through the 64-67 A-body conversions on this forum. The Chevelle, GTO/Lemans, Skylarks, Olds versions will all be the same from a mechanical standpoint. You are lucky that at this time there are a lot of conversion parts available that were not just a couple of years ago.

Going to watch this thread. I have a 67 Cutlass that I am dropping in a Lm7 and 4l80e. I built my own stands and was fortunate to not to have to cut my floor for it to clear. And it only sits at 6 1/2 deg angle. I will be interested to see what direction you go.

Got an ly6 and 2004r in my 64 chevelle , awesome combo , runs great stick with a stock tune , ls3 intake , holley 302-2 oilpan , and longtube headers , get the trany upgraded with quality parts , and if you can afford it a "constant presure valve body"
I would do your engine of choice and use a 4L80/85E. If you don't have any electronics to start with, I would also consider getting the Holley Dominator ECU which would allow you to tune both the engine and trans.

Go with the best you can afford. Looks like you got a straight and solid body to start with. It takes a lot of time and cash after you purchase the power plant, so get what you want the first time. LY6 makes a nice cruiser but not much more. I swapped to the VVT cam from 2010 Camaro along with the intake tbody, it gets around fine but after all the work I was hoping for something that pulled harder. I have 3"duals Xpipe long tube headers. I only have a bench tune from PSI, so taking it to a dyno tune may make a difference.

I guess that's my big question. I don't want to spend 4000 to 5000 and get average when I'm done. But if I waited just a little and spent 7000 to 8000 and got twice the engine. I don't to spend months pieceing something together then a year later plan an upgrade. I see ls3'some with comp and tranny going for about 6000 lq9 and ly6 for about 1500 but then upgrades.

Do some searches for superchargers. I have seen Magnachargers for the LQ's for under $2500.00 from time to time. These really do work quite well. You can make pretty close to 500 rwhp with a pretty stock LQ4 or LQ9, and still have something extremely driveable. I have seen 23 mpg at 70 mph, with the first tune, but who wants to only go 70? Another viable alternative is a turbo. Pretty inexpensive to set up if you factor power to $ ratio. In any event any of these will make a ton of power on a basically stock engine.
