Not really too much going on right now...have to wait till the end of the month to order the final suspension pieces for the car. We decided to go ahead and spray the underside and inner fenders of the shell with rust inhibitor and seal it with a thin layer of undercoating.

This shows the condition of the underside. Again, not too shabby for being an '89 but better safe than sorry.
I was told that this was an original 5sp car, but as you can tell by the shifter hole, this was not the case.

Def gonna watch this one. I have done the same thing pretty much just not as much progress as u. Still need to get the car painted. I'm interested in the AFC k member to but cant find any info on it. Emailed em and they never replied. Good job so far...
well mine was a 4 cyl and I've been around alot of them (old guy here) Sometimes it doesnt take much to rip them out or just pull them out a little. Only takes a few welds to make sure it doesnt break. And yes even with poly bushings it can happen. Its easy to weld up but very hard to fix when it pulls out. good luck, looks amazing.
It's always a good idea to weld them, but the IRS he is putting in will not load the torque boxes nearly as much as the OEM four link does. The IRS just doesn't have enough anti squat to do so.
Doors and fenders are hung. Still waiting on me to cough up the money to finish out the suspension for the front. Still debating on what style or type of wheels to buy..I am open to suggestions from you all. I want to keep the satin/matte theme concurrent throughout the build, so that will be the color of the wheel.
You can see the true color as it is contrasted by the 1960's thunderbird.

Finally an update! I feel like it has been a long time since the last update, but it's only been a couple weeks.
I was able to sit down with the owner of the shop last week and get most of the suspension parts ordered for my car. The only thing we had to hold off on was the rear coils, as we weren't too exactly sure about what spring rates would be acceptable with the IRS.
Fast forward to this morning... I walked into the shop and Jesse had already installed the independent rear assembly and the K member. I got to work on installing the control arms.
We decided to purchase Afco's front K member and control arms, simply because they are well-known in the industry, strongest unit in terms of weight, and their superior fit with their Dynatech swap headers. Only complaint I had is that they did not come with an option for black powdercoating....

The control arms went in without too much effort, except for the odd tq specs of 159ft/lbs. All in all, it went together fairly well and feels rock solid with no play. I did have to take it apart twice because I forgot to grease the bushings.
There wasn't too much to getting the IRS into the car. Drilling the subframe brace mount holes to 14mm was the only major modification needed.
That's all for now. Next update will be a few weeks and hopefully will be the big brake kit.

That AFCO K member is a real nice piece, it looks like it allows you to lengthen or shorten your wheel base a bunch if you wanted to. They claim their K member will clear all popular long tubes.
I hope to build something similar in the future. Great progress so far. What car/truck did the engine come from, and what are you getting the T56/TR6060 from? I have been searching for exactly which OEM transmission will fit with the shifter in the correct spot, but the only documented one I have seen is the '98-'02 F-Body fitting easily.

I haven't bought the motor or trans yet, trying my hardest to get it to a roller. The motor will most likely be an LQ4/9 or possibly an LS2 or LY6 out of a newer truck depending on price at the time.
As far as trans fitment goes, I really hope I can get a tr6060 to fit without too much hacking. I feel like every t56 will be trashed to all hell by this time. Pretty sure they stopped making traditional T56 (save corvette) in 2007 with the ctsv.
I've been looking at most of the foxbody builds on here and I seem to be the "odd man out" so to speak pertaining to the use of the car. Not too many build these for road race/ track vehicles!
Should have another update come Friday. Coil overs are hung on the front as well as rear absorbers. 13" brakes were ordered too
I'm glad to see you went with the AFCO piece. They are about thirty minutes away from our shop. We are a dealer for them and use/sell a lot of their products.
I know everyone is doing LS swaps in Mustangs but I'd love to have a notch w/ an LS3 as a nice DD.

What model years comes with the TR6060? I thought it could come from a 2010 Camaro SS. I am still decided what I want to do. There is a local yard with an LS2 + T56 from a GTO available that I may try for when I'm ready.
