Default LS2 LS3 knock sensor in place of a LS1 knock sensor (side engine block install)

Need some help please.

I have the LS1 ECM and harness with LS1 knock sensors on the side of the block, unfortunately with the Hooker headers 2276-1HKR (with 1 7/8" collector size) the driver side knock sensor with the plug connected i have about 1/8" space (maybe less) between the plug and the header. The passenger side is close as well, but not as bad as the driver side.

So I was talking with my new engine harness builder, and it was suggested to swap to LS2 LS3 knock sensors are they are flat and 90° connector. Then modify the knock type on the ECM with the tune.

My problem is that the LS2 knock sensor has the bolt with a M8 1.25 thread size, while the LS1 knock sensor is a M10 1.5 thread. The M10 thread is already tapped on the block, I could use a helicoil but the only one i found that would fit requires a 1/2-13 thread tap for it to work. I really want to stay away of retaping the block, but I might have to do as a last resort.

Doing a search here I found the following,

https://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-m...l#post17392762

Which is sold by EFIConnection here, the problem I am facing is the mounting thread is 1/4" NPT

Does anyone have a solution like this? I was thinking of maybe getting a M10 cap bolt, drill a hole on the top M8 1.25 size then thread a M8 1.25 thread rod to it and call it a day?

Thank you for your help.

I'm not 100% positive, but I don't think you can use the ls2-3 knock sensors on a ls1 pcm, there is nothing in the pcm that can change type of knock sensor. The ls1 sensor is a 1 wire and the ls2-3 knock sensor is 2 wire.

But the way you have it works great too. Looks great!

You can use the LS2 knock sensors and then change the calibration mode on the PCM to flat response

Are you using a 411 pcm? From the 2 pin ls2 sensor what pins do the wires go to on your pcm?
